Job summary

Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre is looking for someone to join our busy dispensary team. The ideal candidate will have strong inter-personal skills, not necessarily with previous dispensary experience, but someone who is willing to learn. This is a diverse role and having a good sense of humour and a "can do" attitude are essential. You must be able to manage your own workload, work well as part of a team and be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.

You must have excellent attention to detail and produce work to the required standard whilst meeting deadlines. Confidentiality is paramount, therefore having a professional manner is essential and the successful candidate will be required to sign and abide by our confidentiality agreement.

Main duties of the job

Receiving and processing medication requests via paper and online form

Assist with handing out medication appropriately to our patients

Responding and dealing with patient requests and queries using the systems in place

Answering the telephone in a timely and professional manner

Assist with the filing of dispensed medication awaiting collection

At times to assist with the picking of medications awaiting dispensing

Liaise with local Pharmacies and GPs regarding stock problems or changes in medication

About us

You would be part of a friendly and professional team which is made up of 7 dispensers working a variety of hours to cover the opening hours of the practice. The team reports to a Dispensary Manager for day-to-day queries and support. Workload is generated by our GPs, nurse practitioners and nursing team and a good working relationship with them and the rest of the practice team is crucial.

We are a teaching practice, involved in training GPs and medical students from the UEA.

Our aim is for all those working at the practice to feel valued, respected and mutually supported. We offer a generous annual leave allowance of 30 days + Bank Holidays (pro rata for part time staff).

Job responsibilities

Daily Tasks

Process Emails and Footfall messages

Ensure the Methotrexate signing basket has been completed by the Duty Doctor

Check tasks on SystmOne regularly and respond appropriately

Empty dispensed medication from boxes and put onto shelves for patient collection

File prescription forms appropriately

Answer phone and process enquires / advise as appropriate

Printing/Managing Prescriptions

Empty prescriptions from the post box and process

Process SystmOnline requests

Print automatic prescriptions

Print Acute prescriptions from SystmOne from the previous day

Sort printed prescriptions into Dispense / Acute / Automatic / Non-Dispensing and insert in folders

o Ensure prescriptions are signed by GPs daily between 10.30am & 11.00am

o Liaise with Dispensing team as to Acute / Date order

Count prescriptions and record in book for month end preparation.

As/when needed tasks

Remove uncollected medications and destroy prescriptions with reference to the relevant Dispensary SOP including fridge items and their scripts and uncollected prescriptions from the collect box at the patient hatch.

Date check stock on shelf as needed and record accurately

Provide holiday and sickness cover as required (the requirements of which are defined in your contract of employment)

Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners, Practice Manager and Dispensary Manager
