Job summary

Vida Healthcare is currently looking for a dynamic, reliable, hardworking and passionate person to join our Respiratory nursing team.

You can expect to be mentored and supported by Lead GP and Executive Nursing Team, whilst you are empowered to deliver care within the boundaries of your role.You must be able to work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and provide nurse leadership as required. High quality service delivery, complete confidentiality and patient satisfaction are an absolute priority. We pride ourselves on our impeccable standards of patient care and in order to maintain this it is essential that we employ reliable team players with strong caring qualities, dedication and excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality-of-service delivery.We are expecting to short list week commencing 13/03 with interviews taking place week of 20/03. We would expect on boarding to begin as early as May 1st.We reserve the right to close the advert early.

Main duties of the job

Your focus would be to support patients to be healthy and to monitor long-term conditions. We conduct a wide range of health prevention and screening activities and you will be essential to this service to support and facilitate high quality individualised care to patients without supervision.

Job responsibilities

Provide a high-quality service to all our respiratory patient

Maintain and look after our Asthma, COPD and Respiratory Disease registers

Perform detailed diagnostic tests e.g., reversibility testing and monitoring, pulse oximetry

Follow diagnostic pathways and recognised guidelines

Use of protocols to guide diagnostic and therapeutic options

Discuss treatment options with the Clinicians

Referral of patients when necessary to community or secondary care

Discuss and develop self-management plans and education with patients

Demonstrate specialist knowledge, competence and clinical skills in respiratory care and management appropriate to the needs of the patient

Assume accountability and responsibility for delivery of care including assessment, diagnosis, intervention and referral

Work as part of a team

Continue to keep up to date with current guidelines & professional development

Ordering of Health Promotion Literature

Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

A duty to advise senior nurse or GPs of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks

Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.

Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post inc. possible covid vaccinations

  • Relevant demonstrable experience and clinical skills within COPD and Asthma
  • Change-management skills and ability to support patients to change lifestyle
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate difficult messages to patients and families
  • Negotiation and conflict management skills IT skills
  • Can demonstrate using own initiative
  • Registered with NMC
  • Experienced in assessing and developing patient care plans
  • Experience of working with patients with respiratory disease and long-term conditions
  • Evidence of recent CPD resp and covid related
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, ability to receive and provide complex information which may be sensitive, contentious, where persuasive negotiation may be required and there could be barriers to understanding
  • Has a background in any of the following areas Primary care, Respiratory nursing, ED, WIC, UCT or district Nursing with a min of 18mth post reg experience
  • Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse led service
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues in primary care
  • Knowledge of patient group directions and associated policy

  • Post registration, specialist training relevant to speciality
  • Experience in spirometry
  • Knowledge of the pathology of disease and illness processes
