Job summary

To be responsible for the day-to-day functionality of the practice IT systems, ensuring all issues are resolved or escalated in a timely summary.

Main duties of the job

  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures, including read coding and the summarisng of patient medical records. Providing admin support to the management team as and when required. Support the team by carrying out searches, audits and recalls. Support new starters during induction, ensuring they have access correct access to all the practice IT systems. Responsible for data quality and dealing with general enquires.

About us

Cambridge Avenue Medical Centre & Messingham Surgery is a two site practice based in Bottesford Scunthorpe with a practice population of 12800 patients.

We are a well established teaching practice for 3rd and 5th year medical students and GP registrars training.

We are a 5 partner GP practice, including 3 salaried GPs and well established nursing and admin teams.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the day-to-day functionality of the practice IT systems. Duties can include but are not limited to, administration of databases, user accounts, housekeeping, upgrades, patient searches, reporting data and general enquiries. In addition, the post-holder will be required to provide support to the team, ensuring all issues are resolved or escalated in a timely summary.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the IT Lead/Administrator. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

The provision of a local support service to all staff, resolving issues with IT systems and equipment

To perform regular system checks to maximise performance

Provide training to all staff as required, ensuring the effective use of all systems

To ensure staff adhere to practice policies regarding IT security and ensuring conformance to Information Governance

To deliver the IT related elements of the staff induction programme

Build, generate and carry out searches as required by the practice team to enable reports to be produced and action plans devised

Support the team in the effective use of searches, audits and recalls

Support the team in the use of the clinical system

Act as a liaison between the practice and external agencies, for the timely management of all faults

To ensure the practice website is current and reflects the objectives of the practice, this includes social medial platforms, newsletters etc

Maintain the practice intranet, ensure content is current

Configure searches and interpret data for audit purposes

To send out mail merges for a number of campaigns i.e. flu

To ensure all staff have the appropriate smart card access to the clinical system

Support the IT manager with all elements of the online patient access software

Ensure the Operations Lead is updated regarding the release of patches and upgrades

The configuration (activation and de-activation) of all staff email accounts

Supporting the Operations Lead in the writing of all IT related policies and protocols and user guides

Liaise with the ICB and other external stakeholders in relation to IT matters

Contribute to the development of the strategic objectives of the practice, providing specialist IT knowledge as required

To provide administrative support to the Operations Team as required

To undertake appropriate training to be prepared to continue learning as systems develop

Supporting with meeting QOF targets and other targets as appropriate

Other responsibilities include:

  • Experience working within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of NHS and Primary Care IT systems.
  • Excellent IT skills.
