Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

As a Patient Care Navigators formerly known as Medical Receptionist, you are the fundamental base of the practice, and so the ideal candidate would have previous GP practice or similar to experience along with:

  • Knowledge of the clinical systems - S1
  • Knowledge of Footfall
  • Front desk reception duties
  • Registrations
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Confident and compassionate
  • Familiar with electronic prescribing requests
  • Superb communication skills
  • Positive attitude

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system

b. Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments

c. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately

d. Signpost patients to the correct service

e. Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies

f. Using Footfall, a website based platform for incoming appointment requests

g. Photocopy documentation as required

h. Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required

i. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary

j. Direct requests for information i.e. SAR, insurance / solicitors letters and DVLA forms to the administrative team

k. Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner

l. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

m. Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards

n. Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested

  • 1) an excellent track record in a fast paced customer service environment, being able to handle multiple distractions, dropping different tasks and picking work up where left off, balancing a number of different work tasks at any one time and all while maintaining accurate work
  • (2) interacting with people from all walks of life and
  • (3) proven background of the above.
  • (4) First class communication skills
  • (5) Competent in the use of PCs and IT
  • (6) Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policies
  • (7) Absolute discretion with regards to patients and colleagues
  • (8) Proven history of learning and adhering to policies and processes
  • (9) The ability to work in a fast paced environment with an attention to detail where your work directly impacts the end user.
