Job responsibilities

JOB TITLE Receptionist

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST To provide full reception support to the practice partnership and thus enable the doctors to concentrate upon patient care.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Patient Contact

  2. Surgery Preparation

  3. Office Procedures

  4. Computer Duties.

  5. Other Procedures.

  6. Extended Hours

    SPECIFIC DUTIES.

  1. PATIENT CONTACT.

      1. Acknowledge all patients at reception.

      2. Make / cancel appointments as necessary for surgeries as per appointments system.

      3. Accept ambulance bookings as necessary.

      4. Accept prescription requests.

      5. Issue repeat prescriptions on request - incorporating Acute and Repeat Prescriptions and put for reprinting / review as necessary.

      6. Make / cancel appointments for clinics.

      7. Deal with patient complaints / queries when possible or pass on to the Practice Manager.

      8. Take requests for house calls / visits.

      9. Deal with enquiries for the following;

          1. Hospitals

          2. Patients

          3. GPs.

      10. Transfer main telephone to GP on call as appropriate.

      11. Maintain the confidentiality of the patient and other practice information at all times.

      1. Check all surgeries for omissions / additions prior to surgeries starting.

      2. Return to file any patient notes after completed surgery.

  1. OFFICE PROCEDURES

      1. Maintain / print repeat prescribing system for all partners on a daily basis.

      2. Alterations / update repeat prescribing system for all partners.

      3. Any other duty as requested by the Practice Manager / partners.

      4. Scan and Index patient letters

  1. OTHER PROCEDURES.

These will include any of the following;

      1. Filling of appropriate incoming mail for all partners on a daily / weekly basis.

      2. Order / maintain stock levels for Contractor Services Stationery.

      3. Any other duty as requested by the Practice Manager / partners.

  1. EXTENDED HOURS

      1. This post mayalso cover the extended hours opening of the practice, which will involve

        1. Reception and telephone cover during eveningextended hours surgery.

          1. This surgery may be for 1 and a half hours per week.

          2. This may incorporate covering the other evening extended hours sessions during periods of holidays or sickness.
