Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join a well established multi-disciplinary team in a GP surgery. We pride ourselves in giving good quality patient experience and work in a highly motivated and loyal team.

We are looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant who has worked in a clinical environment before.

We offer in-house training, mentoring and a perk scheme.

Main duties of the job

Ideally the candidate must have the following experience:

Phelobotomy

ECG

Blood pressure

vaccinations eg flu, Shingles, Pneumovax

Wound care

About us

We are a small team of clinical and administrative staff who work as a highly motivated team. The successful applicant would have a mentor to help with further training andwould have a point of contact for clinical help and advice.

The Manager has an open door policy and believes ingoodcommunication and actively encourages this.

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, can work within set protocols and policies, has excellent communicational skills and can be a positive representative of the surgery.

Job responsibilities

JOB TITLE: HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO: Clinical Lead Nurse (Clinically)

Practice Manager

HOURS: Minimum 20 hours per week

SALARY: To be finalised

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the clinical lead nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

Work alongside our clinical staff whilst training and provide care to our patients:

  • ECG recording

  • Blood Pressures

  • Phlebotomy

  • Assistance in Minor Ops clinics

  • Excellent communication skills (essential)

  • Basic Life Support

  • Spirometry

  • Diabetes checks

  • Wound care

  • Knowledge of IT

  • Chaperoning duties (essential)

    Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

  • Assistance in Minor Ops clinics

  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

  • Undertake mandatory training as and when required

  • Recognize changes in patients observations and report them accordingly

  • Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients

  • Be part of a team who ensures all equipment is maintained and cleaned

  • Follow all infection control standards

  • Follow a strict code of confidentiality

  • Ensure all Health and Safety policies are adhered to at all times and that the correct reporting procedure is followed if necessary

  • Communicate effectively with patients and all team members

  • Participate in audits where necessary
