Job summary
To
be a member of the Reception and Admin team in assisting patients in obtaining
healthcare appropriate to their needs in a willing and helpful manner.
Main duties of the job
- Act as a receptionist in receiving patients in a friendly, helpful
manner, directing them to the appropriate health care professional
- Make surgery appointments for patients, either in person or by
telephone
- Make urgent hospital transport arrangements when required
- Respond to all queries from or in relation to our patients or other
visitors, where necessary consulting with the doctor
- Pass accurate and
timely messages to the doctors and other members of the primary health
care team
- Ensure that
patients without appointments but who need urgent consultations are seen
in a logical and non-disruptive manner
- Ensure that anyone
requesting treatment in a medical emergency is provided with the
appropriate care as quickly as possible
- Explain practice
arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking
temporary cover, ensure procedures are completed prior to consultation
- Issue prescriptions
and other certificates discretely and securely
- Advise patients of
relevant charges for private services, arrange appointments, accept
payment and issue receipt for payment
- Assist in
chaperoning with clinicians when necessary
About us
We are a large, busy practice covering Littleover, Sinfin, Alvaston and Allenton. We are looking for a medical receptionist to be the face of the surgeries for our patients. The postholders will be expected to travel to all Derby Aspiro Sites including; Hollybrook Medical Centre, Sinfin Surgery, Haven Medical Centre and Parkfields Surgery.
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person, with excellent communication skills, who can treat every patient with care, dignity and respect whilst maintaining an efficient service. They must be a team player and possess excellent organisational/IT skills.
The ideal candidate must be able to manage diversity and large volumes of calls, and help our patients by signposting them to the most appropriate service. This role requires people who remain calm during stressful conversations.

- Organise and arrange

as specified by the Operations manager.
- Take, record and
action telephone messages promptly, accurately and appropriately
- Record requests
for home visits on the computer and take appropriate action for urgent
calls
- Extract records
for other projects and re-file records accurately
- File hospital
correspondence and letters in medical records to current procedural standards
if required
- Take and prepare
requests for repeat prescriptions in person/post if required and enter
accurately in medical records
- Prepare
computerised prescriptions for collection by the patient according to the
current protocol if required
- Record medical
reports from the deputising service and record in the patient’s medical
records
- Input/maintain
patients’ clinical data on the clinical computer system
- Check and file
records received from PCSE (Registrations) for new patients
- Actively
participate in relevant audit topics
- Extract
information to assist in completion of targets returns for the PCSE
- Undertake
referrals to community and hospital providers
- Operate
appropriate functions of the clinical system
- Support the
practice when required by processing and filing patient specific
correspondence if required
- Ensure security of data at all times
