Retford & Villages PCN is supporting the recruitment of a General Practice Assistant to work with one of the member practices, Riverside Health Partnership. We already have excellent members of the team and we believe the addition of a GPA, it will be a huge benefit for
the team, our practices and our patients.
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed individual with an interest in a clinical support role, supporting the GP team with clinical and administrative workload. We are looking for an experienced Phlebotomist or Health Care Assistant; experience of working in a General Practice is desirable but not essential, and our ambition is to find the right candidate with the necessary skills and expertise.
This position is negotiable to part time or full time (hours negotiable with applicant) with
the possibility of flexibility, working across Monday to Friday.
The salary is £22,308 - £24,026 WTE
dependant on experience
We also offer 27 day weeks paid annual leave and the opportunity to join NHS pension scheme.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be passionate and enthusiastic, well organised,
highly motivated and skilled in their role.
This role will be adding to a well-established team
comprising of clinical and non-clinical practice staff and allied health professionals from the PCN. The ethos of the practice and PCN is ensure excellent support for staff and patients and on-going development as part of the wider team.
Working
with the PCN, the practice and other colleagues, we aim to enhance service delivery for the patients of Bassetlaw, alongside ongoing opportunities and for Riverside Health Partnership within the Retford and
Villages Primary Care Network.
A background in general practice is desirable but not for this role.
A strong commitment to personal and professional development and teamwork are essential for this role.

& Villages PCN comprises of 5 General Practices: Riverside Health Centre,
Kingfisher Family Practice, Crown House Surgery, Tuxford Medical Centre and
North Leverton Surgery. With a population of over 54,000 people, it is the largest
of the three PCNs in Bassetlaw.
Riverside Health Partnership serves the North Nottinghamshire market town of Retford and its surrounding villages. We are an established, well-respected, progressive and popular practice providing services from our sites in Retford, Misterton, Harworth and Gringley-on-the-hill.
The partnership has 7 GP partners (including 1 Managing GP
partner), 6 Salaried GPs, 5 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Manager and a structure of
middle and junior managers and team leads.

To work as part of the primary care team in the practice supporting the GPs and Practice
Management as a clinical assistant where the focus is to support general
practitioners in their day-to-day management of patients. The GPA will perform
more routine tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on
patients. The General Practice Assistant will provide a support role,
carrying out some administrative tasks, combined in some areas with other
clinical duties.
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of
patients
Phlebotomy, dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs
Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness
and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice
guidelines.
Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens
process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean
containers, storage and transport arrangements.
Support the GP with immunisations/wound care
Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief
history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on-call
doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can
continue with their consultation(s)
Prioritising clinical rotas and workload to ensure patients have good
access to medical services.
Sorting clinical forms and prioritising for the GP in terms of
actions. Signposting some post to others such as Clinical Pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and
adding to notes
Have a good understanding of clinical systems, managing workflow as
needed to ensure
GPs are able to work efficiently in a timely manner
Handling of sensitive information and understanding the priorities.
