Job summary

We are looking for a Physicians associate to develop a high standard of patient care using autonomous clinical skills with in-depth knowledge and evidence based practice working under the supervision of a GP.

Manage a clinical caseload and deal with an undifferentiated patient presentation within a primary care setting.

Provide support to other members of the team and maintain clinical skills appropriate to the role and expertise.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Physician Associates to join the clinical team. Woodseats Medical Centre has been actively involved in PA training for many years and take students on placement from both Sheffield Universities. There are two PA educators and National PA OSCE Examiners within the practice. This gives the practice a great deal of understanding of the PA role whether you are a newly qualified or more experienced practitioner so we can provide efficient ongoing supervision and training to ensure development of the role.

The PA role within Woodseats Medical Centre would be to provide first rate primary care medicine to the patients within our practice.

Woodseats Medical Centre is a very busy General Practitioners based in Sheffield 8. We are a forward thinking, friendly, training practice, with a growing list size that is currently almost 12,000 patients. Our clinical team compromises of 12 GP's and one Physicians Associate along with an extensive Nursing and HCA team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Under supervision of a GP the post-holder will be required to:

  • Undertake clinical sessions for acute or routine problems including the management of long term conditions including:
  • Face to face appointments
  • Telephone appointments including telephone triage
  • Home visits
  • Provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated undiagnosed problems, utilising history taking, physical examination, problem solving and clinical decision making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan working in partnership with patients
  • Assess and examine patients, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment, within the scope of a PAs practice. Discuss results and implications of laboratory investigations with patients
  • Exercise a high degree of personal autonomy in assessing, managing and planning care for patients and, where appropriate, their families with an emphasis on self-care and prevention
  • Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice
  • Triage incoming pathology results and documents
  • Refer patients directly to other services or agencies using appropriate referral pathways
  • Ensure safe handover of care within and outside the practice as appropriate
  • Work directly with members of the practice and support integrated patient-centred care through appropriate working with the wider primary health and social care networks
  • Complete medical reports such as insurance, occupational health and DVLA
  • Act upon alerts (e.g. QOF, local enhanced services etc.) and reminders during a consultation
  • Be confident in explaining to patients their clinical management plan and able to modify plan according to age and comorbidity
  • Develop consultation skills to enable shared patient practitioner decision
  • Provide appropriate preventative health care and advice
  • Record clear and contemporaneous IT based consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collect data for audit purposes
  • Undertake any other duties that may be required and are consistent with the responsibility and grade of this post
