SALARIED GP (TO PROVIDE MATERNITY COVER)

Job summary

To enable our practice to grow and develop, we are looking for the following person to temporarily join our GP team to cover maternity leave from early December.

Experienced General Practitioner providing up to 8 sessions per week. Hours may include week days until 20:00 and some weekends.

Applicants should possess appropriate qualifications as per the job description, BMA model contract job plans and to be able to work as part of a team, as well as lone working.

Main duties of the job

The Salaried GP will provide clinical care to Harborne Medical patients, and patients using our Hub (where relevant). The Salaried GP will also be expected to participate in educational, staff, and whole practice meetings where available. The Salaried GP is encouraged to participate in any other relevant activities to support their professional development and the service and strategic development of the practice. This includes ongoing medical education, clinical governance, audit and teaching within the practice.

About us

Harborne Medical Practice is a lively, modern and well established teaching practice in the center of Harborne. As well as excellent general practice and nursing provision, our services also include Hub provision for our PCN, Phlebotomy and Minor Surgery, along with specialist clinics for conditions such as Asthma and Diabetes, to name but a few. We are part of the Harborne PCN and have a fantastic family-friendly staff team consisting of 7 partners, 7 Salaried GP's, 30 administrative, Secretarial and Nursing staff and approximately 16,000 patients on our list. Our clinical team is supported by a number of Allied Health Professionals, including GP Assistant, Physiotherapists, Mental Health Practitioners, Social Prescriber, Health and Wellbeing Coach and Clinical Pharmacists.

Our lovely practice has expanded in the last few years, with the addition of 8 clinical spaces and an IT Suite the practice can now offer 20 clinical rooms. We are known for our modern, progressive approach to both the provision of patient care and support for our staff team. We see ourselves as highly innovative, taking great pride in everything we do and are rated 'Good' by CQC.

Job responsibilities

The Salaried GP is expected to work according to the Job Plan provided, to provide continuity of care for out patients.

The practice operates an on-call system which includes an AM and PM responsibility. The Salaried GP will be expected to undertake this duty on a scheduled basis.

Triage, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis

Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly

Assess, diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs

Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition (as appropriate)

Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions

Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within the scope of practice

Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments

Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions

Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care

Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care.

Support and manage health needs of women presenting for family planning, cervical cytology or sexual health consultation

Assess, identify and refer patients presenting with mental health needs in accordance with the NSF for Mental Health

Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children where appropriate

Undertake minor surgery as appropriate to competence

Develop policies and procedures relevant for local and collaborative working and clinical improvement.

Carry our any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post.

Ensures self-compliance with data protection laws and confidentiality agreements, and only shares patient information with authorities and organisations where appropriate to do so.

Accesses medical records only when there is reason to do so, and treats all information from any source a strictly confidential.
