Job summary

Premier Medical Surgery is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our Nursing team. This part-time role, approximately 20-25 hours per week over three days, offers flexibility in total hours and working days. The salary will be dependent on experience. Candidates are encouraged to specify their preferred hours and working pattern in their application.

Main duties of the job

  • Main Responsibilities
  • Providing nursing care to patients in accordance with clinical evidence, NICE, and local requirements.
  • Appraising wounds, administering dressings, and making appropriate referrals.
  • Conducting swabs, cervical smears, and administering immunizations and injections.
  • Assisting with Chronic Disease Management and identifying patients at risk of developing long-term conditions.
  • Participating in clinical emergencies and supporting the Nursing team.
  • Monitoring patients' blood pressure and managing referrals as necessary.
  • Assisting with ECGs, venepuncture, and other clinical procedures.
  • Inserting ring pessaries and supporting INR clinics.
  • Maintaining chronic disease registers and implementing individual treatment plans.
  • Ensuring high standards of nursing care, hygiene, and cleanliness in the nursing area.
  • Recording all treatments in the patient's records on the computer system.
  • Maximizing QOF, Enhanced Services, IIF, and other funding streams.
  • Attending meetings, courses, and update days as required.
  • Supporting Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and patients in the use of prescribed medicines.
  • Adhering to practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behavior.

Job responsibilities

The nurse is part of a nursing team responsible for ensuring that the practice provides an optimum service of nursing care relevant to the practice population.

The main duties and responsibilities are as follows.

1. Meeting patients nursing care needs as identified, or where care has been transferred to her by a GP. This will usually be in surgery but occasional home visits will also be required.

2. Initiating and maintaining health screening and promotion clinics for identified areas of the practice population, recognising where modification of systems or referral is necessary.

3. Managing the nursing care of patients with chronic disease, employing personal recall systems suitable to the practice needs. This includes using the practice computer systems for input of information for recall and screening purposes. Accurate and efficient input of data for nGMS contract purposes is also required.

4. The following clinics:

Asthma

Cervical Smears

Child immunisation

COPD Clinic

Amending or adding to services as needs are identified.

5. Maintaining efficient liaison with all areas of the Primary Care Team and other agencies to assure continuity of care where necessary.

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care

Desirable

  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3

  • Willingness to learn and acquire new skills.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the NHS.
