Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join an innovative clinical team comprising of GPs, clinical practitioners, pharmacists, practice nurses, associate practitioners and HCAs to deliver primary care services in Portslade, Hangleton & Brighton.

We are a busy innovative practice working across 3 sites with a patient population of 24,500 and we are looking for an experienced HCA to join our friendly team. This position is full or part-time hours.

We believe in enabling people to take control of their health care journeys we help to change the way health and wellbeing services work so care can focus on what matters to individuals.

Main duties of the job

Our practice requires a qualified HCA to undertake general HCA duties including venepuncture, immunisations, ear irrigation, health promotion, wound management, long-term condition management. Some previous primary care experience is required, although on-the-job training will be provided to increase skills for the right candidate. Agreed salary will reflect the current skills and experience.

- Undertake health checks and long term condition reviews

- Support the clinical team with the management of long term conditions

- Act as a chaperone if and when required

- Taking samples within your skillset

- Administering vaccines and injections within your skill set

- Providing care and patient related duties, including wound care, within your skill set.

- Ordering equipment

- Stock taking

- Ensuring that clinical rooms are well stocked and clinical team have the equipment they need

- Maintain a level of infection control in line with WellBN policy

- Keep own training and development up to date

- Ensure clinical waste management is undertaken within WellBN and NHS policies

- Carry out regular fridge checks

- Deliver opportunistic health promotion when appropriate

Experience

Essential

  • 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years.
  • Experience of working with the general public.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Healthcare qualification or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification.

Desirable

  • Ear syringing certification

Clinical Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Immunisation (flu, B12, shingles & Pneumonia)
  • Treatment of minor injuries.
  • Dressings, wound care and removal of sutures or staples.
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Clear, polite telephone manner.
  • Competent in the use of patient record management systems: EMIS/SystmOne.
  • Effective time management (planning and organising).
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Polite and confident.
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.
  • Flexible and cooperative.
  • Motivated.
  • Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure/ in stressful situations.
  • Effectively able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient.
