MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Health Care Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
HCA DUTIES & TREATMENT ROOM Duties
- New Patient Health checks
- ECG Recording
- Chaperoning duties
- To assist in the processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs Nurses
- Testing urine specimens using appropriate equipment and record as requested
- Ensuring that specimens brought in by patients or taken by doctors or nurses are ready for collection by pathology service.
- Maintaining stocks of examination instruments and specimen collection materials as well as stocking rooms for consumables and supporting the ordering process. Process to include checking expiry dates so everything is in date.
- Correctly storing instruments.
- Maintaining vaccine stock levels and stock rotation as agreed with the practice nurses.
- Maintaining and ordering drugs, instruments and clinical supplies.
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
- Performing other clinical tasks as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the practice.
MINOR OP's
From time to time the Doctors at this practice carry out minor operations for patients. These can include Contraception implants, removing in-growing toenails, coil fittings etc
You will be required to assist GPs in Minor Ops:
Getting instruments ready and laid out on trolley
Organise dressings required from stock
Clear away used instruments
PHLEBOTOMY
To assist in providing Phlebotomy services for the practice, as required.
You will responsible for running your own Phlebotomy Clinic. The times of the clinics will be in accordance with the practice needs.
This will include; checking request forms, checking patient's identification, checking equipment, drawing blood and labelling bottles.
To take blood samples of those patients requiring regular blood tests for conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, CHD and those on certain medication.
You will also be required to carry out the following measurements either during or separately from the Phlebotomy Clinic.
Taking and recording the following:
INR
Blood Pressure readings
Height
Weight
Smoking status
Alcohol consumption
BMI
ECG
Injections under PSD guidance
NHS Health Checks
New Patient Health Checks
Anti coagulation testing
Assisting nursing team when requested as well as GPs and other clinicians
Other Tasks
Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners and Managers.
