Job summary

The successful applicant will be joining an established and supportive team at Cleckheaton Group Practice.

Healthcare Assistants make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high quality healthcare, care and support.

The role is 30 hours per week, working 4 days per week.

We need someone who can offer flexible working hours, as the earliest appointment is 07.30am each morning and the latest appointment is 6pm.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual to join our team who can provide safe and compassionate care of a high standard.

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Cleckheaton Group Practice is a GP Practice located in the heart of Cleckheaton, with a list size of 9500 patients.

We have five GP Partners, one Practice Nurse, one trainee ACP, and a strong non-clinical team made up of Reception, Admin and Medical Secretaries

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working under direct supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocol, the Health Care Assistant will assist the Practice Clinical Team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (dependent of the postholders skills and Qualifications:

New Patient Health Checks

ECG recordings

Phlebotomy

- Blood pressure monitoring

- Flu vaccinations, B12, pneumonia

- Wound care

- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.

- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

- Re-stocking and stock rotation

- Clearing and restocking consulting rooms

- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations, coil and implant fittings

- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and wellbeing

- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

- Helping to raise awareness of health and wellbeing and how it can be promoted.

- Assisting in the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being of data

To provide administrative support to achieving the QOF and other incentive scheme clinical and non-clinical markers for each financial year. This will include recall systems, data inputting and validation.

- Actively involved in long term management such as hypertension and asthma

- To undertake projects with the Practice Manager and Business Manager to ensure that data is captured by the clinical team is of a uniform standard and to ensure timely and accurate reporting. To include template management

To support Practice Campaigns clinically and administratively, e.g. Flu.

Maintain BP measurements within strict protocols

- To provide administrative support to new initiatives for example the website and intranet

To carry out any additional duties as may be required following discussion with the Practice and Business Managers.

Essential

  • Experience of working within a nursing team.
