Job summary

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our dedicated medical team. If you have a passion for patient care, excellent attention to detail, and experience in drawing blood efficiently and safely, we want to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a venepuncture blood taking service for patients

Ensure proper patient identification and labelling of samples

Maintain a clean and safe work environment in line with IPC guidelines

Provide a calm and reassuring presence to patients

Handle specimens according to protocol for transportation to labs

What Were Looking For:

Certified Phlebotomist

Previous experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred

Experience with INR monitoring clinics is desirable

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Commitment to upholding health and safety standards

About us

We are a GP practice based on the outskirts of Sheffield, with approximately 10,000 patients. We have 9 GPs, 1 Practice Nurse, 2 Healthcare assistants and a full supporting team of administrative and clerical staff. We also have various ARRS roles in practice such as clinical pharmacists, first contact physios, mental health practitioners etc.We offer a friendly and supportive work environment for all staff, with regular staff socials to maintain our great teamwork ethic at the practice.We offer ongoing training and development opportunities when required, and an employee assistance programme for all members of staff to access.

Primary key responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system

The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

Carrying out INR monitoring clinics

Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff

Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Secondary key responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:

Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
