Practice Nurse - Respiratory

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated Practice Nurse to lead and deliver high-quality respiratory care, including managing asthma and COPD in line with QOF requirements and national respiratory guidelines.

The role requires independent clinical decision-making, with support from GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team when required. The successful candidate will be adaptable, proactive, and committed to delivering safe, evidence-based care.

Work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, ensuring that practice policies and procedures are followed.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver comprehensive respiratory care for patients with asthma and COPD, including structured annual reviews in line with QOF and national respiratory guidelines. Delivering both in-person and telephone reviews, depending on clinical appropriateness.
  • Assess, diagnose (where appropriate), and manage both acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including exacerbations, within scope of practice. Provide inhaler technique assessment and optimisation as well as referring to, and interpreting, spirometry/FeNO.
  • Deliver comprehensive wound care management, including assessment, treatment, and ongoing monitoring and oversight of acute and chronic wounds in line with current clinical guidelines
  • Provide cervical smear screening in accordance with national screening programmes, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and accurate documentation.
  • Support travel health services (where applicable), offering advice, risk assessment, and appropriate vaccinations.
  • Administer childhood immunisations and vaccinations across all age groups, adhering to national immunisation schedules and best practice guidance, while promoting patient education and informed consent.
