Medical Secretary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly practice team.
The ideal candidate would have experience of using SystmOne, good sound knowledge of medical terminology, and have worked as a Medical Secretary within the NHS.
You must be accurate, have good communication skills, be a team player, and also be able to work flexibly in the absence of colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
To provide an efficient copy typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals and notifications in an accurate and timely manner.
- To make appointments and bookings as required using the E-Referral Service wherever possible.
- To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure.
- To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
- To maintain the computer system in an accurate and secure manner.
- To consult the internal communication portal on a daily basis.
- To check and ensure all two week wait referrals have been received by hospitals.
- To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
- To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
- To receive and dispatch mail.

We are a busy practice with a list size of 17,000 patients. You would be joining a friendly Medical Secretarial team within our Admin Department.

Experience
Essential
- Previous NHS experience is essential. We will consider candidates from primary and secondary care
- Very good command of written and oral communication, including typing abilities
- Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages primarily; Word and Excel
Desirable
- Knowledge of SystmOne would be advantageous
- Previous use of eRS referral pathway
