Job summary

Mowbray Group Surgeries are large progressive medical practices based in Northallerton and Hutton Rudby.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Dispensing Assistant to join our dedicated team at Hutton Rudby.

Hours: 8am - 5pm Wednesday. 9am - 6:30pm Friday.

Location: Hutton Rudby Surgery, however some cover at Mowbray House Surgery, Northallerton will be required.

Salary: Depending upon experience

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills.

The role will involve processing and dispensing medication, Operating an efficient stock control to the needs of the dispensary, keeping up to date with new drugs on the market. Cash handling when processing patient transactions. Liaising with patients face-to-face and via the telephone for a range of queries.

NQV level 2 in dispensing (or equivalent) is desirable.

Experience of general practice and Systmone would be an advantage.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities:

Dispensary:

Process and dispense requests for medication and appliances in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, the principles of good practice and legislation, as well as raising any questions or concerns to the prescriber where there are any.

Endorsing of prescriptions in accordance with NHS Prescription Services requirements.

Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients whilst minimising wastage.

Keep up to date with any new drugs on the market and changes in legislation.

Take prompt action in response to any MHRA drug alert bulletins.

Reception/Administration:

Promptly liaise with patients face-to-face and via the telephone with any queries such as booking appointments, prescription requests, test results and general advice whilst promoting compliance and available services, diverting and taking messages where appropriate.

Promptly process all incoming and outgoing paperwork to the relevant recipient as per practice policy in a timely manner.

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients as well as those seeking temporary cover whilst following procedure.

General:

General housekeeping whereby a clean and tidy work environment is maintained.

Maintaining an open and honest attitude where mistakes are made and ensuring that Quality and Improvement reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Maintaining full and accurate records for all transactions and interactions.

Cash handling during patient transactions and daily cashing up as well as accurately advising patient of all charges.

When handing out assembled medication, ensure that the reverse of prescriptions are completed accurately by the patient or their representative.

Undertake any other reasonable additional duties as directed by management.
