Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Deputy Practice Manager on a permanent, full time basis at Glastonbury Surgery.

This opportunity will suit an experienced manager with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to ensure the smooth day-to-day operational management and service delivery of our well respected practice.

The diverse and varied role will suit someone that is self-motivated and enjoys a challenging, yet rewarding role and at times, work under pressure to maintain high standards of service delivery and good patient outcomes.

Although experience of working in general practice is desirable, we welcome applications from experienced operational managers who can demonstrate that they have the skills in the areas required.

Closing date: 2 February 2025

Initial Interview: 12 February 2025 (AM)

Final Interview: 25 February 2025 (AM)

Candidates will be shortlisted and invited to the initial interview, with a further shortlisting process and invitation to the final interview.

The expected start date for this post is mid-May 2025 and there will be the opportunity of a handover from the current Deputy Practice Manager.

Main duties of the job

The role offers a varied working day that involves the management and coordination of all aspects of practice functionality. Working with, and deputising for the Practice Manager in all aspects of practice functionality, motivating and managing staff, optimising efficiency and overall performance, ensuring the practice achieves its long-term strategic objectives in a safe and effective working environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining essential business operations and continuously improve processes and procedures, taking advantage of innovations to improve the working day. The Deputy Practice Manager will also be the focal point for promoting and supporting wellbeing across the workforce.

With accomplished organisational and planning skills, the successful candidate will balance the needs of the practice against the constant changes and opportunities on offer in general practice.

The role will have the support and close working relationship with the Practice Manager, Data/ I.T Support Manager and line management of two Team Leaders and the Secretarial team.

We are a stable, supportive and very friendly training practice that has retained its family and patient-first ethos. We work from purpose-built premises that has been recently extended, in a colourful market town offering semi-rural primary care.

The practice is very successful and has a good reputation amongst the GP community both externally and internally as evidenced by strong staff retention.

We care for a registered population size of 14,000 served by GPs, GP Registrars, Nurse Practitioners and a paramedic, a team of Practice Nurses and HCAs, physiotherapists, administrative, secretarial and reception staff.
