Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Physician Associate to work across our four base practices. This will be a candidate who is experienced in either general practice and/or hospital and community care and who is enthusiastic, accomplished and self-motivated to join our dynamic team to work in a patient facing role. You will need to have an understanding of primary care delivery and systems. You will understand the opportunities and challenges within General Practice and be able to interact knowledgeably with practice managers, administrators and health professionals.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Middlewood Partnership / Primary Care Network multidisciplinary team your role will be to deliver direct care to patients including care within nursing and residential homes; supporting home visits alongside our home visiting team and being involved in the management of long term conditions, in particular cardiovascular disease and acute / minor illness in General Practice.

It is essential for applicants to hold at a minimum a PG Diploma in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised University and to have passed the UK Physician Associate (FPA) Managed Voluntary Register (FPMVR) before employment commences.

Dimension and Context of the Role

Nationally, the development of the Physician Associates role forms part of the strategic direction for Primary Care Networks and is aimed at supporting and complementing the roles of other primacy care health professions to continue providing outstanding care to our patients. The Middlewood Partnership already have a team of Physician Associates and are looking for another to bring additional skills and expertise to our team.

The role of the Physician Associate is as an innovative new health care professional and whilst not a doctor, works to the medical model with the attitudes, skills and knowledge base to deliver holistic care under defined levels of supervision.

Key Duties

As an independent practitioner, undertake patient assessments, consultations, clinical examinations, order appropriate investigations and interpret investigation findings within scope of practice and competence.

From a list of differential diagnoses, recommend management/treatment for discussion with, and sign off by, a clinical supervisor

As part of a multidisciplinary team, support the delivery of care in a range of settings

Under clinical supervision, take responsibility for a dedicated patient caseload, where required

Maintain timely and appropriate documentation

Within your scope of practice and working as part of a multidisciplinary team, perform delegated diagnostic/therapeutic procedures

Contribute to the development of efficient pathways of care

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, support and contribute to timely discharge planning where appropriate

Undertake where appropriate analysis of reports in order to support patient care

Ensure the provision of high standard of care at all times

Liaise closely and work collaboratively within the clinical/multidisciplinary team to ensure good working relationships are in place which maximise benefits to patient care

Build effective networks with other teams and organisations, working in collaboration to support efficient patient care

Comment on policies and processes to inform policy and process/service development relevant to clinical needs

Consider, where necessary, clinical audit or research if appropriate and of interest
