Job summary

To be responsible for the read coding of relevant information into patients electronic healthcare records on EMIS clinical system, adhering to the organisation coding policy. In addition, the post holder will also support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the organisation.

Reviewing records and accurately producing a summary of the patients medical history

Accurately read coding data on EMIS

Reviewing progress of summarising, ensuring practice targets are achieved

Review all clinical letters ensuring they are processed appropriately in line with extant protocols

We are based in a large brand new purpose-built building in Tower Hamlets (Suttons Wharf Health Centre) with approximately 17500 patients. The team comprises of 6 Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 1 Nurse, 1 HCAs and an extensive management and administrative team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Medical Summariser. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Reviewing records and accurately producing a summary of the patients medical history

b. Accurately read coding data on EMIS

c. Reviewing progress of summarising, ensuring practice targets are achieved

d. Review all clinical letters ensuring they are processed appropriately in line with extant protocols

e. File and store records as required

f. Photocopy documentation as required

g. Action all incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner

h. Scan patient related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients healthcare records

i. Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary

j. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately

k. Conduct system searches as requested

l. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

m. Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

Secondary responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Medical Summariser may be requested to:

a. Review and update the practice summarising policy as required (in conjunction with the Management Partner)

b. Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead

c. Support reception staff, providing cover during staff absences

d. Book appointments

e. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent

Desirable

  • GCSE Mathematics and English (C or above)
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • Medical records summarisation qualification

  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
