Job summary

Ash Surgery is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to be part of our extremely busy clinical Admin team.

As Clinical Coder/Administrator you will provide an invaluable link between the third-party information that comes into the Practice on a daily basis and the patients electronic records. If you have accurate keyboard and IT skills and have an understanding of medical terminology, then this could be the job for you!

Experience

Previous experience as a coder or medical notes summarizer is ideal but not essential.

This role may also suit someone with previous nursing or clinical experience

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Coder will be responsible for assigning the correct codes to a patient's record in terms of medical diagnosis, service received as well as ensuring relevant documentation of procedures is attached to the record. They will ensure the codes are applied correctly.

About us

Ash Surgery is a traditional GP Practice, set in the heart of rural East Kent, close to the city of Canterbury. We are a close-knit team with 2 Partners, two salaried GPs, a paramedic practitioner and nursing team made up of two Practice nurses and three HCAs.

Our administration team work very closely with the clinical team to support each other and deliver the very best in patient care.

Job responsibilities

Primary responsibility duties

Accurately clinically code data on the clinical system into the patient record

Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action.

Input and extract data as required to support practice reports

File and store records as required

Photocopying documentation as required

Action all incoming correspondence emails and mail in a timely manner

Scan patient related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients' healthcare records

Answer incoming telephone call, transfer call or deal with callers request appropriately

Carry out systems searches as requested

Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested.

Secondary duties

Review and update the practice coding policy as required in conjunction with the (Practice Manager)

Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead

Support reception staff, providing cover during absences

Book Appointments

Complete opening and closing office procedures

  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Ability to work autonomously in a very busy role
