Job summary

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to join a friendly GP practice with a reputation for being forward-thinking and highly supportive with a CQC status of outstanding?

We are looking for an Apprentice Receptionist to join our busy GP practice. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organised, an effective communicator who can provide a professional, warm welcome to our patients, ensuring every contact is of the highest quality. You will also need a compassionate nature and be able to operate in a busy environment, you will be working with our clinical and administration teams. This post is for 30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for general reception duties and office duties within the practice, working with our established processes, policies and procedures to provide a comprehensive high-quality service and deal efficiently and courteously with patient enquiries.

  • You will work toward the Customer Service Standard Level 2
  • You will be allocated a Trainer Assessor and training will be planned and delivered in conjunction with the employer to meet the individual needs of the apprentice
  • You will spend 20% of your working hours in off the job activities and training
  • On-the-job and off-the-job training will be delivered in the workplace

About us

The Calverton Practice is a long-established dispensing GP Practice covering Calverton and the surrounding villages with a list size of approximately 9700. We have a team of 6 GP partners, 3 salaries GPs and as a training practice host both GP registrars and medical students. Our nursing team currently consists of 5 nurses, a paramedic, 2 HCAs and a phlebotomist who are supported by staff from across our local PCN (Arnold & Calverton) including pharmacists, physiotherapists, and mental health OTs. We also have a large, supportive administration/managerial team. As well as working in a great team, a recent extension and refurbishment programme provides an excellent environment in which to work.

Job responsibilities

  • You will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

  • You will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

  • Receiving patients, consulting with members of practice team
  • Computer data entry, processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Book/edit/cancel appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded to retrieve medical record.
  • Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations required.
  • Deal with home visit requests, carefully noting all details
  • Cover sickness/annual leave and work reasonable overtime when required.
