Job summary
We are looking for a Practice Nurse to join our busy, friendly team.
You will provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN.
You will work with reference to Practice agreed protocols and guidelines, providing nursing treatments to patients both independently and in participation with colleagues and general practitioners.
Ideally you will have the required level of training and competence but we are willing to provide additional training in areas you are not qualified. You are expected to work within patient group directives where applicable. A nurse with a prescribing qualification will use this appropriately.
Main duties of the job
General practice nurse work including, but not limited to:
- Cytology
- Manage baby clinic including childhood immunisations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions
- Travel Clinic - advice on vaccinations and administer of vaccinations
- Perform ECG recordings and present results to the requester
- Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
- To undertake chronic disease management (ie asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension) within Practice protocols, including monitoring progress, response to treatment
- Hypertension Management
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery
- Administer Depo injections
- Undertake pill checks
- HRT commencement and reviews
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- The flexibility to cover sickness/annual leave
- Weight monitoring
- Smoking cessation
- Cardiovascular disease reviews
- Routine immunisations such as flu, whooping cough, shingles, B12
The Practice is open 7 days a week to offer patients increased access and improve our staff's work:life balance.
Successful applicants will work a fixed pattern ideally Thursday 8am-8pm, Friday 8am-8pm and Sunday 9am-5pm although there is some flexibility in these hours for the right person.

First Contact Physios, Clinical Pharmacists, Dieticians, Social Prescribers, Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, Medicines Manager and experienced reception/administration staff make up a great team.
We are an innovative practice using Workflow Optimisation, Pathology Go, AskMyGP, Docman and Accurx. We have extended our working hours to 7 days a week to benefit our patients and staff.

- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Cytology
- New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
- Travel Clinic
- Perform ECG recordings and present results to the requester.
- Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
- To undertake chronic disease management (ie asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension) within Practice protocols, including monitoring progress, response to treatment.
- Hypertension Management
- Routine immunisations

- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery
- Administer depo injections and carry out pill checks.
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
- Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager
- Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
- Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
- Ordering of stock from the Hospital
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any Practice meetings
- Undertake home visits
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
