Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to take forward Lakeside Healthcares rapidly expanding research and business development portfolio. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of the Lakeside Research Unit, driving commercial growth, developing new partnerships, ensuring regulatory excellence, and overseeing the expansion of research activity across multiple sites. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced research leader with strong commercial insight and a passion for innovation in primary care research.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic business leadership to the Research Unit, ensuring the delivery of a high quality and innovative research programme.
  • Oversee commercial and academic clinical trial operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Lead business development activities including proposition development, market analysis, and partnership growth across NHS, academic and commercial sectors.
  • Manage the expansion of the Research Unit, including new site openings and the mobile research unit.
  • Act as senior liaison for external research partners, stakeholders and commercial organisations, representing Lakeside Healthcare at external meetings and forums.

We are expanding our research capacity through new outreach sites, a mobile research unit, and the introduction of additional Principal Investigator Partner Doctors. The successful candidate will join a growing, innovative department that plays a key strategic role in developing clinical research and commercial services across Lakeside Healthcare.

The Head of Research and Business Development plays a critical leadership role in advancing Lakeside Healthcares strategic goals through the development and delivery of a high-quality, innovative research programme and commercial service portfolio.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, and working closely with our Research Partners the postholder will provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the Research and Business Development functions. Working with the Research Parters, they will liaise with external researchers, commercial companies, and partner organisations seeking to conduct clinical trials in our network. The role will also involve seeking new opportunities and developing alliances for additional contracts including neighbourhood and place contracts.

This role is pivotal in ensuring effective governance, continuous improvement, and business growth within the research and additional services space in primary care.
