Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working person to join our friendly team; someone who is reliable and flexible and who enjoys providing high quality care to patients. Our phlebotomist will be integral in supporting our nursing team to achieve timely patient reviews and ensure patients are seen quickly in response to a GP request for phlebotomy.

The successful candidate will undertake a phlebotomy service within the practice across our 3 sites in St Neots.

This is a part-time role working 12 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

What you will do

  • Undertake the collection of intravenous blood samples from requesting clinicians.
  • Support other members of the team as required.
  • Chaperone duties as required for examinations.
  • Maintain equipment and stock levels within the clinical rooms in conjunction with the nursing team.
  • Undertake any cleaning required.

Treatment room supplies

  • In conjunction with the nursing team, ensure the maintenance of treatment room equipment and stock levels relating to patient care.

Pathological specimens

  • Undertake the collection of intravenous blood samples requested by the clinicians within the boundaries of personal qualification and competency, under supervision of the Practice Nurses.

Administrative and professional responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations are recorded contemporaneously in the patients electronic records.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care.
  • Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain effective liaison with other staff and external agencies concerned with patient care with appropriate regard to confidentiality.
  • Maintain continuous education by completing the mandatory online training modules and attendance at courses or study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
  • Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post.
