Job summary
The practice needs a new Dispensary Supervisor to oversee the smooth running of the Dispensary, alongside working at Pharm Tech level to assist the GPs with increasing levels of medicines management.
Essential Criteria
We are looking for somebody with;
NVQ2 Dispenser qualification
A confident telephone manner
Proven management and dispensing skills
Excellent communication skills both written & verbal
The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Great IT skills
Main duties of the job
Provide a supervisory role to the Dispensary Team, with the ability to step in to help at peak times or to cover unplanned absences
Ensure the provision of quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medicines to the patients of the Hereward Practice
Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the NHS Prescription Services for processing and reimbursement
Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice and ensure all drugs are stored in an appropriate manner
Supervise Dispensary staff and organise staff rota to ensure sufficient cover across the week
Oversee/check dispensing, ensuring all staff are trained to the appropriate level
Offer cover when required due to staff absences and annual leave
Ensure new guidelines are communicated and adhered to within the dispensary
Ensure all monthly checks are actioned and recorded in line with surgery policy
Compile and complete audits and reports for DSQS including support to complete the requisite number of annual DRUMS
Review and update local policies on an annual basis
Contribute to joint project and development work across the Dispensing sites within Lakeside as directed by the Dispensing Lead

- To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription
- To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient
- To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and a record kept of all financial transactions
- To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms monthly to the PPA for processing and reimbursement
- To plan and manage holidays and other absences of the dispensary team
- To liaise with patients who have enquiries or concerns in person or by telephone
- To promptly forward all invoices annotated as necessary to the finance officer according to practice policy
- To notify the authorising doctor of any FP10 returns/feedback from the PPA so that appropriate remedial action may be taken
- To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage, including treatment room supplies and dispensary consumables
- Management of CD drug balances and checks
- To ensure that prescribed items for home delivery are prepared in good time
- To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that are received
- To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook
- To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order
- To review Dispensary SOPs on an annual basis and ensure they reflect the current working procedures
- Participate in annual CD inspections ensuring all paperwork is completed appropriately
- Undertake an annual audit in line with DSQS requirements
- To undertake any necessary work as requested, required and as appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service
