Job Title: Practice Manager
Location:Hillfoot Health, Liverpool, UK
Hours: Full-time
Salary: £45,000 - £47,000 PA (Dependent on experience)
Reports to: GP Partners
Responsible for: All non-clinical staff and operational functions of the practice
Job Summary

As Practice Manager, you will be responsible for leading the operational, financial, and strategic management of the practice. You will work closely with the GP Partners to ensure the practice runs smoothly, remains financially sustainable, and continues to provide high-quality care to patients. You will oversee all non-clinical staff, foster a positive and productive workplace culture, and drive forward the practices modernisation agenda.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Change Management
Lead and manage modernisation and innovation initiatives to improve patient access and operational efficiency
Drive change management processes, ensuring smooth implementation of new systems and structures
Cultivate a positive, progressive, and supportive workplace culture, enhancing staff engagement and retention
Provide clear leadership and act as a key liaison between the clinical team, support staff, and external stakeholders
2. Financial & Business Management
Manage the practices financial performance, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and cost-effectiveness
Oversee budgeting, payroll, and contract management, ensuring compliance with NHS and financial regulations
Identify opportunities to increase practice revenue, including maximising NHS income streams
3. Patient Access & Experience
Lead initiatives to improve patient access, and streamline administrative and access queries
Oversee the management of appointment systems, reduce DNA and cancellation rates, and increase continuity to optimise patient care
Ensure the patient voice is heard through feedback surveys, and PPGs, and act on insights to improve service delivery
Enhance the patient experience by integrating first contact physios, pharmacists, mental health practitioners, and social prescribers into routine care pathways
4. Team Development & HR
Lead a high-performing team, ensuring all staff are trained, motivated, and aligned with the practices vision
Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development of all non-clinical staff
Ensure compliance with employment law, policies, and HR best practices
5. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, NHS guidelines, data protection laws, safeguarding protocols, and health & safety requirements
Manage data security and confidentiality, ensuring the practice meets all governance standards
Oversee policies, risk assessments, and quality assurance measures to ensure regulatory compliance
6. Technology & Innovation
Lead the implementation of digital solutions
Drive IT system improvements to enhance efficiency for both staff and patients
Increase patient engagement with NHS digital services, improving both patient safety and administrative efficiency
Key Skills & Competencies
Leadership & Strategic Thinking Ability to lead, inspire, and implement positive changes within the practice
Financial Acumen Experience managing budgets, contracts, and financial planning in a healthcare setting
Operational Efficiency Strong understanding of GP practice management, including appointment systems, patient flow, and compliance
Problem-Solving & Innovation Ability to identify challenges, develop solutions, and drive forward service improvements
People Management & HR Skilled in team leadership, training, and HR best practices
Communication & Stakeholder Management Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with staff, patients, and external partners
Technical & IT Proficiency Familiarity with GP clinical systems, digital tools, and IT-based patient access services
Qualifications & Experience
Preferred:
Proven experience in a management role within healthcare, primary care, or a related sector
Strong leadership and people management skills
Experience with finance, HR, compliance, and operational management
Understanding of NHS regulations and primary care contracts
Desirable:
Experience implementing change management and digital transformation in a healthcare setting
Familiarity with GP clinical systems and NHS digital tools
Track record of improving patient access and practice efficiency
