Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Handyman to join our GP practice team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a variety of maintenance and repair tasks across two practice sites, ensuring both locations are safe, functional, and well-presented for staff, patients, and visitors. This role is essential to the smooth daily operation of both sites.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, and minor repairs.

Conduct regular inspections of both premises to identify and address any maintenance issues.

Assemble or move furniture and equipment as required.

Maintain exterior areas of both sites including minor landscaping, clearing pathways, and waste management.

Perform routine water temperature checks and maintain accurate records in line with health and safety standards.

Carry out regular safety checks of furniture and equipment such as chairs, wall-mounted fans, and other fixtures to ensure they are secure and in good working order.

Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and resolve issues efficiently.

Liaise with contractors and service providers when specialist work is required.

Ensure all work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Conduct routine safety checks, including fire alarms and water systems.

Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide regular updates to the Practice Manager.

About us

Weavers Medical is a large practice spread across two locations, Kettering and Mawsley looking after almost 30,000 patients. The practice has a large clinical team comprising of GPs, practice nurses, HCAs, mental health practitioners and a paramedic. The clinical team is supported by a large administrative team.

Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar maintenance role.

Full UK driving licence and access to own reliable transport to travel between two practice sites.

Good understanding of general building maintenance.

Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Basic IT literacy (e.g. using email, logging maintenance records, using a smart phone).

Desirable

Relevant vocational qualification or trade certification.

Experience working in a healthcare or regulated environment.

Working Conditions

Physical nature of the role, including lifting, bending, and use of tools.

Travel between sites will be required on a regular basis.

Flexible working hours may be necessary depending on the needs of the practice.

Occasional emergency call-outs may be required.
