Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our team.
As part of our Long Terms Conditions team, you will help to improve the medical care of patients by carrying out simple clinical observations and investigations, such as dipstick, blood pressures, phlebotomy, annual review tests and NHS health checks. You will also be supporting our administrative team. This will involve medical coding, notes summarising, and supporting receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions.
The role is flexible and responsive to the needs of the business so there may be some variation in ratio of clinical to admin at different times, e.g. to cover unplanned absence.The GPAis a new role, so we are looking for someone who can adapt as the role evolves.
Previous experience in a health care setting is desirable, althoughany required training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the General Practice Assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks.
The work will be varied and dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
Key requirements of the role
Clinical services
Carry out simple clinical observations and investigations work, such as dipstick, blood pressures, phlebotomy, Annual Review Tests, NHS Health Checks
Supporting the practice with immunisations/wound care, including the covid and flu vaccination programmes.
Conduct home visits as required.
Other clinical responsibilities, as required.
Supporting smooth running of clinical appointments by restocking and ordering clinical supplies
Administration
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding, summarising, and adding to notes.
Support our dispensary teams in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions, patient enquiries about their prescriptions.
Support administration for the practice vaccination programmes.
Support achievement of QOF and Impact and Investment Fund indicators
The GPA must ensure that they work within and recognise their scope of practice, escalating any concerns to a senior clinician as appropriate.
