Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our team.

As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will help to improve the medical care of patients by carrying out simple clinical observations and investigations, such as dipstick, blood pressures, phlebotomy, New patient checks, NHS health checks, wound care and minor injuries. You will also provide administrative and patient contact support as directed by the management team.

Previous experience in a health care setting is desirable, although any additional training will be provided.

The post has been advertised as an Experienced Health Care Assistant however the practice would welcome applications from treatment room nurses. The job specification and job description would be adjusted accordingly. We are looking to employ a member of staff to cover treatment room work but with developmental possibilities in the future.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the 2 partners, our clinical team includes 3 part time salaried GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, and a Phlebotomist. Our dedicated non-clinical team includes a Practice Manager along with a brilliant team of receptionists and administrators and a team of dispensers.

The Practice is part of the Western Dales Primary Care Network and has strong links with neighbouring practices and we anticipate these developing further over the coming years. We already benefit from the ARRS roles with a clinical pharmacist, Social Prescriber, First Contact Physiotherapist, Mental Health Practitioner, HAWC, and a Nurse Associate.

Clinical services

When trained, carry out simple clinical observations and investigations work, such as dipstick, blood pressures, phlebotomy, New patient checks,, NHS Health Checks, ECG, INR, 24 hr BP fit/removal, simple injections, Ear syringe, New patient checks, routine dressings, minor injuries.

Supporting the practice with immunisations including the covid and flu vaccination programmes.

Act as chaperone when required.

Other clinical responsibilities, as required.

Supporting smooth running of clinical appointments by restocking clinical supplies and rooms are prepared for each session.

Monitor clinical stock levels and trigger ordering to ensure adequate stock levels

Ensure fridge temperatures are checked, and fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice Infection Prevention Control policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.

Provide support during minor operations procedures as required. Including preparation and maintenance of environments and equipment before, during and after procedures.

Administration

Various administrative tasks to enhance service delivery and patient care as directed by the management team. This may include searches, audits, contacting patients etc.

Secondary Responsibilities

Be willing to learn new skills and participate in shared learning within the practice

Good timekeeping

Contribute to the achievement and maintenance of good to outstanding CQC registration status.
