Job summary

You will be the first point of contact for all patients and visitors coming into the surgery and will project a positive and friendly image. You will provide general assistance to the practice team and to patients, either in person or via the telephone

It is your role to receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.
  • Undertake any tasks given by the GPs, Nurses and Practice Manager.
  • Attend and participate in regular Practice Meetings
  • Undertake any relevant and mandatory training as required.
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Scan incoming hospital letters into patient clinical records
  • Using your communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking a temporary GP and ensure procedures are completed.
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
  • Enter requests for home visits into the visit book, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor.
  • Action the repeat prescription requests, either on the computer or manually, and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within the specified time 48 hours.

About us

We are a small busy GP practice with an ever growing patient list size of over 4500. We have a mix of partner and salaried GPs, practice nurses and access to a home visiting service, mental health practitioner, first contact physio, pharmacist, social prescribers and District nurses.

Make sure the waiting room is tidy as necessary

Ensure that all new patients follow correct registration procedures

Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the GP Partners or the Practice Manager.
