Job summary: The candidate should hold a Level 3 Health Care qualification or Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification and have a proven track record of working in General Practice as a Health Care Assistant.
An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our committed and forward-thinking team.
The successful candidate will support the nursing team in the delivery of patient centred health care, which will include a range of long-term conditions, immunisation and vaccination, phlebotomy, annual health checks, NHS Health Checks, dressings, health promotion and screening.
Main duties of the job
- To support the Nursing Team and GPs in providing care to patients within our Practice population
- To work collaboratively within the whole Practice Team ensuring that the care delivered to the Practice population is relevant, responsive, of the highest standard and is clinically effective and efficient
- Contribute to improving quality standards
- To work within the framework of the Scope of Professional Practice to ensure that the best possible care is given to the Practice population
About us
Southwell Medical Centre is a semi-rural practice in the heart of Nottinghamshire, serving a patient population of circa 12200 patients.
We have a large multi-disciplinary clinical team including permanently employed staff as well as ARRS staff employed by our PCN.
We are a really friendly team, looking to maintain good levels of patient care within our nursing team.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services at Southwell Medical Centre:
- Consult with patients and their families to undertake health assessments for patient reviews.
- Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient education.
- Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisation.
- Undertake NHS Health Checks.
- Undertake minor dressings and suture removal.
- Undertake phlebotomy.
- Undertake annual chronic disease checks and signpost to relevant clinician for care-planning as necessary.
- Process samples as required and ensure they are appropriately recorded.
- Support with minor surgery, joint injections and coil/implant clinics as required.
- Manage registers as delegated and recall patients on these registers to attend for specific appointments as required.
- Work within national and local protocols where these exist.
- Undertake ECGs and conduct ambulatory ECG/BP monitor fitting.
