Job summary

Southwell Medical Centre are looking for an experienced healthcare assistant, ideally with a background in Primary Care to join our team.

The right candidate will be a team player who will compliment our existing nursing team, working together to deliver high level care to our patient population.

We are looking for an individual to work for us for between 25 to 30 hours per week worked over 3 days (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role for a Health Care Assistant that will include duties such as phlebotomy, chronic disease reviews, health and lifestyle monitoring, assisting with minor surgery, liaising with external teams to organise home visits and assisting other members of the nursing team.

It is a busy role in a fast paced environment.

About us

Southwell Medical Centre is a training and dispensing Practice, providing care to a patient population of around 12300 patients.

We have a large multi-disciplinary team which includes 4 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, a large Nursing Team, a Dispensary Team as well as our Administrative Team and Practice Secretaries. We also have 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 1 FCP, 1 TNA and a Mental Health Nurse attached as part of the PCN ARRS roles.

Our surgery received a Good rating in our last CQC inspection.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This role includes (but is not limited to):

Being part of a multi-disciplinary team monitoring and caring for patients under direct or indirect supervision

Supporting the practice team in the management of patients with long-term conditions and chronic diseases

Assisting in and performing routine tasks related to patient care

Undertaking observations; identifying signs of improvement or areas of concern; reporting any deterioration or concerns as necessary

Undertake wound care and dressings in line with training and competencies

Document consultations accurately and appropriately

Ensuring awareness of statutory and local clinical adult and children safeguarding protection procedures, including systems of referral.

Recognise signs and symptoms of neglect

Obtain and document informed consent as required

Chaperone and assist patients where required

Assist with Minor Surgery, joint injections, coil and implant clinics

Assist in Practice Audits, recalls and QOF achievement

Vaccinations in line with training and competence levels

Advise patients on general healthcare with referral to GPs as necessary

Monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment checking

Undertake collection, storage and dispatch of pathological specimens including blood samples, swabs, smears etc.

Completion of administrative tasks as directed by the Nurse Manager, GPs or Practice Manager

Attend and participate in meetings as required

Maintain effective relationships and communication with colleagues and other agencies

Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviours always including when liaising with internal and external colleagues

Qualifications

Essential

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level or previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate

Desirable

  • Phlebotomy training

Experience
