Job summary
We are looking for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Paramedic (First Contact Practitioner) to join our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).
Applications will be considered from those looking for full or or part time employment.
Main duties of the job
Applicants will demonstrate safe, clinical
decision-making and expert care for patients within the Urgent
Treatment Centre. They will work
collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to meet the
needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and
providing nurse leadership as required.
We are looking for candidates who have previous experience working in an Urgent Treatment Centre, Minor Injuries Unit or Accident and Emergency Department. Applicants will have their prescribing or be working towards this qualification. Applicants will work autonomously, seeing their own caseload of patients presenting with illnesses and injuries. The role may also involve some home visits. Excellent communication skills with experience of using a medical software package are also required.

Scope and Purpose of the Role
- To deliver a high standard of patient care as a Practitioner in an Urgent Treatment Centre, using advanced
autonomous clinical skills, and a broad and in-depth theoretical knowledge
base
- To manage a clinical caseload, dealing with
presenting patients needs in an urgent care setting.
- To manage at times complex situations whilst
balancing the needs of the department and own work in the face of
competing demands for time.
- To support the team (where applicable) and ensure
the highest standards of care are provided for the patients.
- To teach, supervise and facilitate others in all
aspects of care within the service
- Provide clinical, professional and managerial
leadership at all times
Job Dimensions
- To manage own clinical workload in the UTC responding effectively to patient needs and ensuring patient choice and
ease of access to services, whilst supporting others to do the same.
- The development and use of referral pathways to the local acute NHS Trust services to Diagnostic and Treatment Centres.
Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility
Clinical Role
- Make professionally autonomous decisions for which the individual is accountable and support others where appropriate in their decision making.
- Provide a first point of contact within the UTC for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed
problems, making use of skills in history taking, physical examination,
problem-solving and clinical decision-making, to establish a diagnosis and
management plan.
- Instigate necessary invasive and non-invasive diagnostic
tests or investigations and interpret findings/reports, eg x-ray.
- Where the post holder is an independent prescriber:
to prescribe safe, effective and appropriate medication as defined by
current legislative framework.
- Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective,
individualised patient care.
- Offer a holistic service to patients and their
families, developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care/support,
with an emphasis on prevention and self-care.
- Promote health and well-being through the use of
health promotion, health education, screening and therapeutic
communication skills.
- Refer patients directly to other services/agencies
as appropriate.
- Contribute to the practice achieving its quality
targets to sustain the high standards of patient care and service delivery.
Professional Role
- Monitor the effectiveness of your own clinical
practice through the quality assurance strategies such as the use of audit
