Whitstable Medical Practice is about to begin delivering Covid-19 vaccinations to the local community.
Covid-19 vaccinators will work as part of a dynamic team delivering a safe and effective service for the mass delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine(s).
It is likely that clinics will run out of normal surgery hours including weekends therefore applicants must be prepared to work flexibly.
Main duties of the job
Post holders will be responsible for administering the vaccine to patients within a team of staff working in a clinical setting under the direction and supervision of a registered health care professional.
Post holders will be responsible for: -
- Configuration of their vaccination station.
- Administration of the vaccine.
- Disposal of clinical waste and change of PPE as per national guidelines.
- Adherence to infection control practices between individuals.
Although relevant training will be provided, post holders should ideally have experience of administering vaccines and providing immunisation advice within a health care setting.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering a safe and effective service for the mass delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Responsibilities:
- Delivery of a safe immunisation
service.
- Conducting clinical assessments of
patients prior to vaccination.
- Supporting the reviews of complex
medical histories and potential adverse reactions and offering specialist
advice as needed.
- The supervision of drawing up and
preparation of the vaccine prior to administration and ensuring that each
activity is recorded.
- Ensuring the best possible clinical
outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based
policies and procedures.
- Assist with the overall coordination of
the workstation activity and day to day delivery of the vaccinations,
ensuring clinical area and equipment are prepared and sufficient stock of
clinic supplies are available.
- Supervise the pre-vaccination clinical
assessments to confirm the correct vaccination, the consent agreements and
consult on the provision of specialist advice on contra indications.
- Ensure post vaccination information is
given to the patients.
- Address any concerns that may arise
regarding the vaccine and contraindications including triggering any
clinical escalation that maybe required, first to the Lead Nurse and then
to the GMS Manager as appropriate.
- Checking of patients medical history
and address any potential adverse reaction risks; provide patients with
information on what to do in the event of adverse reactions.
- Ensure vaccine batch numbers, staff
member administrating vaccination, date and site confirmation are
recorded.

Data Protection/ Confidentiality/ Caldicott principles in addition to
Statutory and Regulatory guidelines of the Professional Bodies (NMC, GPhC,
HCPC and others).
