Job responsibilities
Apart from clinical work, you would be expected to shareresponsibilitywith the otherpartners for decision-making and the ultimate development of the practice. This includes the financial aspects of keeping the business afloat and employing staff whilst ensuring the practice provides high quality care. You would also be expected to participate and contribute to the development of local health care with the PCN
Clinical responsibilities:
- In general the post-holder will be expected to provide compassionate and holistic care and undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities of a GP.
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries through patient access, visiting patients at home, and dealing with queries, and correspondence in a timely fashion
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Making professional, autonomous decisions
Appropriate referrals within the multidisciplinary team
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans
- Providing counselling, health education and foster self care
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Completing QoF templates
- Collecting data for audit
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with ICB prescribing formulary
- Use clear language appropriate for patients
- Respect patient rights to confidentiality and provide information to colleagues
- Respond rapidly to emergencies
- Ability to recognize and deal with safeguarding issues
- Ensure up to date emergency equipment and drugs are available used if required
- Ensure up to date developments in clinical practice and regularly review knowledge and performance
- Be aware to comply with practice clinical policies and protocols
Leadership, business and other responsibilities:
Good understanding of GMS contract, business rules, finances and QoF (DQOF), Excellent IT skills, understanding and complying with partnership agreement
Leadership and participation in planning development of local health care, such as MDT, PCN and ICB. This would include attending the meetings, demonstrating leadership, commitment, exploring opportunities and sharing within practice
Working with Primary Care Networks: Our practice is part of a PCN and as such all Partners have a duty to represent and lead the practice, where necessary, in PCN development.
Ability to work under pressure. Ability to solve problems and effective decision-making skills. Attention to details
Ability to chair meetings, deal with complaints/claims, significant events, HR issues and staff appraisal
Awareness and Compliance with all laws applicable to general practice medicine
Leadership in developmentand updating ofpractice policies/guidelines and ensure compliance
Communication:
The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the practice and wider team and will strive to:
- Communicate effectively with other team members, such as hospital, MDT, local health organizations, safeguarding team, palliative care team, social services and voluntary sectors
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers
- Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly, such as online communication and skype consultations
Quality:
The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:
- Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
- Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance
- Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
- Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
Confidentiality:
- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
- In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data. Practice follows GDPR current legislation.
Health & safety:
The post-holder will implement and manage their own and others health and safety, security and infection control as defined in the practice health & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, and the practice infection control policy and published procedures. To include:
- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
- Data security, password management
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified

Participation in Training and teaching
A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice. Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate
Training and supervision of GPR and FY2
Mentoring and training students, HCA and nurses
Personal/Practice development:
In addition to maintaining continued education and learning the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:
- Participation in an annual appraisal, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
- Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.
- Ability to explore and work on practice development opportunities
- Ability to develop community services
