The role of our Prescription Clerk/ Trainee Dispener is a rewarding role and works very closely with our Patient Coordinator's which is very much the heart of Marriott's Medical Practices.
Building relationships with our patients helps enable us to gain a full understanding of their medical needs and requirements. Developing a good rapport with external teams such as our local pharmacies, home visiting team, care homes, community nurses and other multi-disciplinary services to assist with continuity of care and support to our patients.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a person with excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal and time management skills to join our friendly and Dispensary Team. The successful candidate will have a good level of general IT skills and demonstrate an aptitude for learning new skills and adapting to change. Previous experience of working in General Practice is not essential.To be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of prescription requests for the entitled population, liaising effectively with all relevant personnel.
Duties can include, but are not limited to, the processing of repeat prescriptions in electronic and hard copy format, including online requests. In addition, the post holder will be required to support the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the strategic objectives of the organisation are met.
About us
Marriott's Medical Practices is a combination of two surgeries, Bacon Road Surgery and Taverham Surgery (Dispensing practice) with a combined patient base of over 13,000 patients.
We are a training branch and work closely with the UEA, teaching 1st, 2nd and 4th year Medical Students.
Our Dispensary team is led by an Dispensary Supervisor who is on hand to help, give support and will conduct the induction training when you first join the team.

Job responsibilities
We have a friendly and supportive team who are passionate about providing top quality service to our patients across Taverham Surgery and Bacon Road Surgery.
We offer a two-week induction whereby you will have time with our team to gain a good understanding of how the practice operates and will be enrolled to complete a NVQ Level 2 Dispensary Course.
The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team, patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure accurate documentation within patient records via Systmone.
- Monitor and respond to online communications via our online system, Systmconnect.
- Process repeat prescription requests received by phone, email, fax, post, slips and the online access system, in accordance with practice protocol.
- Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe.
- Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a 48-hour timeframe.
- Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items.
- Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections.
- Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinicians.
- Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require.
- Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintaining an accurate recall system.
- Effectively liaise with external services, i.e., district nurses, to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients.
- Always maintain accurate records, including appropriate coding entries.
- Deal with all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner. Record and report adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the practice manager immediately..
- Data input onto the clinical IT system.
- Carry out system searches as requested.
- Always maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- In addition to the primary key responsibilities, the Prescription Clerk may be requested to:
- Support the [Clinical Pharmacist/Senior Dispenser/Administration Manager] as required.
- Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead.
- Support the Practice Manager in reviewing and updating the Prescribing Policy and SOPs.
- Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota.
