Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Nurse to join our healthcare team. As a Women's Health Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the well-being of our patients.

Main duties of the job

The position of a Womens Health Nurse is a relatively new role in the Practice and as such, may be developed and modified as per organisational needs in the future. The post holder will provide nursing services with a particular focus on womens health and sexual health management to patients of the Practice, including contraception, all aspects of womens sexual health, cancer screening and testing, menopause and HRT. The post holder will work in accordance with the NMC code of conduct.

About us

  • We operate from our two practice sites in Callington and Gunnislake that are 5 miles apart. Callington has around 10,500 patients and Gunnislake 6,100.Our GPs work closely with ournurse practitioners, paramedics and two pharmacist partners to provide an excellent and responsive service for those patients with acute illness requiring same-day advice and management of long term illnesses/ chronic disease management.

Job responsibilities

Primary duties and areas of responsibility:

Provide contraception information and options to women and men and emergency contraception advice. Prescribe contraception and emergency contraception where appropriate. Fit or remove contraceptive implants and intra-uterine contraceptives.

Provide pre-pregnancy counselling with a particular emphasis on ensuring women get the right information around folic acid and vitamin D.

Provide sexual health information to patients.

Have awareness of cancer screening and testing and investigation/referral pathways in cases of possible gynaecological cancer including ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer and cervical cancer.

Assessment and management of male and female patients with bladder problems, including simple urinary tract infection, stress, urge or mixed incontinence and male lower urinary tract symptoms.

Assessment of women with breast problems.

Cervical screening.

Ring pessary fits and changes.

Promote health advice to patients around lifestyle factors such as smoking, weight alcohol, exercise.

Liaise with the Safeguarding Lead on plans to best utilise skills and support high quality safeguarding in the practice.

Act as chaperone support for GPs where needed.

Run Tic Tac clinics with the Tic Tac administrator.

Support other staff to gain DFSRH, train other staff members to fit coils and implants (Desirable)

Participate in team training sessions and meetings.

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team

Use research in care delivery to ensure all patients receive the highest possible standards of evidence-based care.

Act as a mentor to staff undertaking training.

Participate in audits and implement findings, involving local and National Policies.

Prescribe medicines and appliances within own scope of practice.

Maintain own prescribing qualification by completing necessary update training, prescribing reviews and audits.

  • Registered Adult Nurse - Recognised qualification to diploma level or above
  • Successfully completed the supplementary/independent prescriber course and hold an appropriate entry on the NMC register or GPhC register, with clinical experience.

Desirable

  • LoC for subdermal implants
  • LoC for IUD
  • Sexual or reproductive health trainer

Other requirements

  • No history of or pending medico-legal cases
  • Appropriate Immigration Status (where appropriate)
  • UK driving licence
