Job summary

We are looking for a Physician Associate to join our friendly, supportive two site practice in Sheffield. We are proud to serve the Upperthorpe and Ecclesall communities and to be active members of the City Centre and Sheffield Hallam University PCN.

You would be the first Physician Associate to join our team, so this is an exciting opportunity to use your skills and knowledge to develop the role and make a real difference to our patients and our Practice. Our patient list is around 12,400 with the numbers split almost equally between Upperthorpe and Ecclesall. Serving two very different communities enables the staff to gain a greater understanding of the diverse health needs across the city and provides variety and development opportunities.

Sheffield is a great place to live and work, having all the benefits of a city but with numerous open spaces and the Peak District right on our doorstep.

Main duties of the job

As a Physician Associate you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients, including:

  • taking medical histories and performing physical examinations
  • diagnosing illnesses
  • seeing patients with long-term chronic conditions
  • performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • analysing test results
  • developing management plans
  • provide health promotion and disease prevention advice for patients.

You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice, in consultation with the duty GP. You will work with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to support meeting the needs of our patients.

The post-holder is expected to have completed studies leading to a Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies. Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior medical personnel at the practice.

About us

You would be joining a team of 6 partners and 4 salaried GPs, all of whom value collaborative working and support each other to provide high quality patient care. Clinical discussions, mutual learning and continuous improvement are seen as key. Our 5 Practice Nurses, 3 HCAs and experienced administrative and reception teams all pride themselves on providing a caring service and welcoming environment for our patients. We work closely with other organisations and have a Clinical Pharmacist, physiotherapist and health visitors all providing services from our practice.

We look after two care homes and have developed close links with the local voluntary sector in order to better meet the needs of our patients.

We are very much looking forward to developing the Physician Associate role within our Practice and you would be assured of a warm welcome from our team.
