Job Description
Job title: Medical Receptionist
Responsible to: Business Practice Manager
SalaryDependent on direct experience
Hours of work: 2 week rolling rota basis to suit the needs of the Practice
- Days of work: Monday Friday
- Hours of work: 07.50 18.30 with shifts of 7.50am 1.20pm & 1.00pm 6.30pm on alternate days
Responsible for: Ensuring the patients receive an efficient service. It is expected that all duties will be carried out courteously and efficiently with total confidentiality
Peel GPs require a high standard of patient and business confidentiality at all times.
Main Duties:
Patients
Welcoming patients at the Reception desk
Accepting patient arrivals for appointments for surgeries and clinics
Directing patients to GPs and Nurses for appointments as required
Booking Appointments for surgeries and clinics
Accepting and processing requests for prescriptions via electronic methods only
Dealing with enquiries
Handing out sick notes
Accepting pathology samples for transport to the lab
Business
Promote the services of Peel GPs in a professional manner
Reception Waiting Area and Reception Desk
Keep these areas tidy
Checking of the leaflet rack on a daily basis ensuring that mandatory information is for patients is available
Telephone System
Dealing with requests for home visits ensuring these are relayed to the GP as per policy
Dealing with enquiries
Communication and Data
Daily use of the clinical software system Emis
Recording of accurate data both written and computerized
Process messages in a timely and accurate manner as per policy
Preparing data for entering on computer
Participate in audits
Assist with QoF (Quality and Outcome Framework)
Recalls
Scanning of documents
Coding
Referral management
Liaising with other health care professionals and agencies as requested
Participate in Practice learning sessions
Attendance at meetings e.g. staff, I.T team and patient participation group
Work as a team member
Promote and represent Peel GPs at meetings/visits in a professional manner
Information Governance
Patients entrust us with and allow us to gather sensitive information in relation to their health and social well being. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their confidentiality and act appropriately.
- In the performance of the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description, the post-holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers/family members, Practice staff, other healthcare workers, the NHS and Peel GPs.
- The post-holder will have access, either written or verbal, to business sensitive information. All information is to be regarded as strictly confidential. Information may only be divulged to authorized persons in accordance with Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality, NHS Code of Practice and the Data Protection Act or any other statute
General Housekeeping
Assisting in accurate stock control of stationery
Maintaining medical records to a high standard
Retrieve/File medical records as required
Participate in annual appraisal or reviews
Attendance at training sessions e.g. in-house and/or external
Attend and comply with Health & Safety training and regulations

With consultation/tuition/supervision your refusal in taking responsibility for these duties could be deemed unreasonable. Staff are required to undertake appropriate training as requested. They are also required to cover duties of colleagues during periods of absence.
