Job summary

We are looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic Dispenser to assist in our practice dispensary and reception teams.

The role is to cover a period of maternity leave and will be for a minimum of 4 months, starting in August 2023. However, the position might be available for a longer period or possibly could become permanant.

Candidates must have experience as a Dispenser or Prescription Clerk, with flexibility towards work.

Although most of the working week will be spent helping in our Despensary, some time will be spent helping our Reception team.

Main duties of the job

Adhering to strict practice protocols and standard operating procedures, is essential. You must accurately deal with all types of requests in a timely way, ensuring all compliance issues are met.

You must be a team player with excellent people handling skills to deal with patient queries. It is essential that you are quick to learn and a competent user of IT.

About us

We provide GMS services to a mixed practice population of around 6,700 patients in North Walsham and the villages in the surrounding area. We are contracted for most enhanced services and are committed to high standards of patient care, achieving high QOF scores. The Practice is proud of our support to students from the UEA medical school.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser/Prescription clerk. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Process repeat prescription requests received by phone, email, post, slips and the online access system, in accordance with practice protocol and standard operating procedures

b. Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe

c. Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a 48-hour timeframe

d. Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items

e. Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections

f. Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require

g. Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician

h. Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintain an accurate recall system

i. Effectively liaise with external services i.e., district nurses to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients

j. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary

k. Deal with all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner

l. Record and reported adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the practice manager immediately

m. Read code data on SystmOne patient record keeping software

n. Carry out system searches as requested

o. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

p. Assisting our Reception Team with patient queries

Any other reasonable duties as necessary.
