Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Phlebotomist to join our friendly, hardworking team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing patients to have their blood taken and drawing blood from a patient safely. This is a rewarding job since you help people stay healthy and there could be the opportunity to progress skills.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a busy environment and has a love of patient care. The candidate will need important phlebotomist skills such as presence of mind, people skills and attention to detail. You should have a qualification in phlebotomy or extensive on-the-job training and have knowledge of venepuncture techniques.

Main duties of the job

  • Identify patients and their personal information using their ID, documents, or other means
  • Determine the right venepuncture method based on patient age, health etc.
  • Ensure the patient is comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirms their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
  • Find veins that are suitable for puncture
  • Draw blood using Vacutainers process
  • Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples
  • Accurate, legible labelling of all samples ensuring each sample is stored in appropriate containers ready for testing
  • Ensure the samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
  • Answer patient questions and provide useful information
  • Keep accurate computerised records on fluid specimens and tests
  • Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards
  • Notify a senior member of staff of any significant patient issues

We are a responsive, innovative and ambitious training practice, who pride ourselves on delivering safe and timely care, enabling patients to optimise their health and well-being. The current Practice team consists of 7 GP partners, GP Associates, Retained GPs, as well as a multi-disciplined team consisting of Clinical Pharmacists, Emergency Nurses, Practice Nurses, HCAs, a Paramedic and an Emergency Care Practitioner as well as non-clinical staff. We are in the process of expanding the team to incorporate further areas of expertise into our multi-disciplinary team.
