Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Dispenser to join our friendly, hardworking team at Winsley Health Centre.

This role is part-time working up to 26 hours per week between Monday-Friday 08:30-13:00 & 14:00-18:00.

The successful candidate will be part of a small Dispensary Team working alongside clinical & administrative staff to provide accessible, prompt and professional healthcare for patients attending the Practice. You will be responsible for adhering to safe and legal processes for dispensing and efficient procurement of medicines.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an efficient, accurate and safe dispensing service to patients in accordance with Practice protocols
  • To help patients to get the best from their medicines by advising on medication queries, facilitating audits and safety alerts
  • To be responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are no discrepancies (if qualified but if unqualified in this area training will be provided)
  • Collecting prescription charges in accordance with Dispensary protocol
  • Maintaining stock levels within the Dispensary
  • Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
  • Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed in accordance with Practice policy
  • Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines
  • Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within a 48-hour timeframe
  • Processing Dossett boxes
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly returns

Winsley Health Centre is situated in the small village of Winsley, about 5-10 minutes drive from Bradford on Avon.

We are a responsive, innovative and ambitious training Practice, who pride ourselves on delivering safe and timely care, enabling patients to optimise their health and well-being. We offer our staff the opportunity to develop their skills and competencies by providing in-house (and external - where appropriate) training and mentorship, in a supportive and nurturing environment.

The current Practice team consists of 7 GP partners, GP Associates, Retained GPs, as well as a multi-disciplined team consisting of Clinical Pharmacists, Emergency Nurses, Practice Nurses, HCAs, a Paramedic and an Emergency Care Practitioner as well as non-clinical staff. We are in the process of expanding the team to incorporate further areas of expertise into our multi-disciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the processing of prescriptions in accordance with Practice policy and extant legislation. In addition, the post-holder will be required to support the Dispensary Manager in ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at all times, whilst supporting the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of the Practice.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a Dispensary/Pharmacy.
  • Experience working with the general public/patients.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care.
  • Accuracy checking experience.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification in Dispensing.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English & Maths at Grade C or above.
