Job summary

We are a forward thinking and friendly Practice providing quality care for over 20,000 patients in the local community. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our patient services team as a confident, reliable and conscientious Medical Receptionist (full time/part time applications considered). If you enjoy working in a busy, caring environment and have a flexible and adaptable approach you may be the person we are looking for to join our valued team. As a Medical Receptionist you will provide the highest standards of support to our clinical team, practice management and patients .This will involve working co-operatively and efficiently with other members of the Patient Services team to ensure the smooth running of the service. You will undertake a wide variety of duties including using our clinical system to make appointments, reception duties and various administrative tasks. Our team provides a courteous and respectful service to every patient to meet their individual needs.

Main duties of the job

Working as a Medical Receptionist in the practice requires excellent customer service skills. Experience of call handling in a busy and changing environment is desirable. As a member of the patient services team you will be required to be a good communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to work calmly and confidently when under pressure and dealing with several tasks at once. Confidentiality is key to the role which requires honesty, discretion and a sympathetic approach. To use the clinical system you will need a good level of IT literacy, and familiarity with Microsoft Office and emails is essential. Minimum GCSE Grade C in English & Maths.

When protocols or systems change immediately adapt to make these changes part of your routine approach to work Excellent time keeping is essential as well as following the sickness and holiday Practice protocols Regularly be available for reception cover during times of staff shortages (including holiday & sickness cover) Be prepared to work in other teams within the Practice if necessary Be available to work at either branch Surgery as the need arises Contribute to working co-operatively and efficiently with other members of the reception and administration team Be courteous and respectful of every patient and their individual needs As a member of the reception team you will provide patient services either on the telephone or at reception. Take clear messages for other colleagues working at the Practice Assist and work closely with other members in the Primary Health Care Team and Secondary Care, when needed Carry out your own designated tasks with care and efficiency Regularly check your NHS email account responding efficiently Maximise infection control by regular hand washing and using sanitising wipes before and after your shift on your computer, accompanying IT equipment and surrounding workstation Regular appraisals are carried out to review your work and to search out and define any training needs Any other duties may be required within the skills and experience of the post holder.
