Job summary

Bridge Street Medical Centre is a thriving practice which wants to hire a Manager who can support us in providing excellent care for our patients.  The Practice Manager is a critical role, making sure that everything runs smoothly, so that clinicians can focus on patients and their needs.  This is an exciting opportunity for a strong manager to work closely with the GP Partners to set the strategic priorities for the Practice and ensure that staff are well-motivated to meet agreed targets.

Main duties of the job

To manage and coordinate all aspects of the practice’s day-to-day business, motivating and managing staff, optimising efficiency and financial performance, and ensuring the practice achieves its long-term strategies.  This includes responsibilities across all key practice management areas such as:

About us

Nestled in the heart of central Cambridge, Bridge Street Medical Centre serves over 10,500 patients from all demographics in the local area. The Practice has 5 GP Partners and a strong clinical team, which includes Practice Nurses, a HCA and a Clinical Pharmacist. We are a Training practice, supervising registrars, as well as teaching medical students, primarily from the University of Cambridge. We have a keen interest in Research and are active participants in local initiatives within our Primary Care Network and more broadly, such as those aimed at reducing health inequalities. Our Administrative team provides excellent support to our clinicians and includes two Care Coordinators, who focus on helping some of our most vulnerable patients. Accountability:

Accountable to the partners, with one partner being nominated to act as mentor and provide support as needed.

Patient Services:

Develop services which best serve the needs of the practice’s patient population.

Human Resources:

Ensure that the practice is staffed and resourced within the budget by people with appropriate skills, experience and commitment to provide professional, technical, administrative and inter-personal expertise needed.

Policy and planning:

Regularly review the organisation and developments within and outside the practice which will impact directly or indirectly. This includes involvement in local and national agencies which formulate and influence primary health care strategy.

Financial Management:

Responsible to the partners for effective management of practice finances, working with the partners / accountant to plan effective budgetary control, ensuring cost efficiencies and maximisation of profitability.

Information Technology systems:

Ensure effective management of information within the practice and with outside agencies.

Partnership Governance:

Provide support to the partners and the partnership to ensure excellent team-working and a sound legal framework.

Operations, Equipment & Stock:

Ensure the effective and efficient working systems and operational systems within the practice, including equipment and stock management.

Buildings, Health & Safety:

Advise the practice in making full and effective use of its current premises in a safe and compliant manner.

Care Quality Commission:

Advise the partners on action needed to maintain compliance with the CQC requirements.

Other appropriate duties:

Any other duties that may arise appropriate to the manager of a general practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths or equivalent

Desirable

  • Relevant higher level qualification, such as degree or other qualification in management, finance, human resources or similar.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of line management of administrative staff;
  • Experience of financial management / accounting;
  • Experience of dealing with patients or other confidential customer data;
  • Basic Computer competence (Microsoft Office suite and clinical systems)

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the NHS and its financial / reporting tools;
  • Experience of working in the NHS, especially Primary Care;
  • Experience of managing teams in a clinical setting;
  • Excellent computer skills
