Job summary

To join our friendly, innovative, expanding (currently 12,800 registered patients) and forward thinking Practice and to manage a busy and interesting clinical caseload. Our multi-skilled clinical team of GPs, ANPs, Nurses, Mental Health Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacist, Physician Associate etc., work together to provide high quality, accessible primary care services to our patient population together with the support of the complement of management and administration staff.

We currently additionally offer healthcare services to the Homeless, to local Mental Health Units and we are an accredited Clinical Research in primary care facility. We provide placements to ST & FY Drs, Student Nurses and iGPR (international GP) Drs in a supported and educational learning environment for the whole Practice team to engage with too

We are a Tier 2 Sponsor and able to accept applications from candidates who require this support.

Ideally required is a 4 session/2 day post-holder to work on Mondays and Fridays but the Practice is happy to discuss working patterns to suit the preferred candidate and the Practice

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care including surgery and telephone/video consultations and queries, home visits, partaking in the Duty Dr rota (supported by a daily Duty ANP); patient and Practice administration (IT enabled and streamlined processes), paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Our Practice is based close to Warrington town centre, and from two dual sites of the Medi Centre and Orford Park premises. The Medi Centre opened as a purpose built health centre in late 2016; our occupancy in Orford Park is part of a larger Health and Leisure facility which opened in 2012.

We are a multi-disciplinary team of 4 GPs, 3 ANPs, 4 Practice Nurses, 1 Clinical Research Nurse, 1 Mental Health Practitioner, 1 Physician Associate, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 2 Health Care Assistants, 3 GP Assistants with a full complement of Management and Administrative personnel to support the clinical team and the patients. In addition we employ PCN ARRS personnel such as First Contact Physiotherapists, Mental Health Practitioner, Paramedics, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, GP Assistant and Care-Coordinators

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide Personal Medical Services to acceptable clinical standards to patients, both in surgery and on home visits.
  2. Respond to medical problems presented by patients on the medical list, including history taking, examination, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, referral where appropriate and adequate documentation with READ coding onto the GP Computer system.
  3. Provide appropriate health promotion and preventative health care and advice to the Practice patients attending the centre within the context of primary health care.
  4. Attend all team meetings and other meetings as may be necessary for PMS duties.
  5. Carry out clinically related administrative and non-clinical duties needed for the delivery of personal medical services.
  6. Provide free certification in line with Schedule 9 of NHS GMS Regulations (1992).
  7. Provide emergency cover for absent colleagues from time to time as detailed.
  8. Maintain patients clinical records in line with the electronic patient record system.

Duties within Practice:

  1. You would be expected to perform two surgeries of 2.5-3 hours duration in a day with combination of face to face and video/telephone appointments
  2. You would require to be available to the Practice between the core hours of 08:00 to 18:30hrs.
  3. Triage home visits as required and undertake the same
  4. Sign all relevant prescriptions and deal with Patient and Practice correspondence on a daily basis.
  5. Deal with all clinical roles within the Practice as undertaken by your clinical colleagues as required.
  6. Participation in the Practice on-call (Duty Dr) arrangements
  7. Take responsibility of acquiring the Practices QUOF, Enhanced Services and any other contractual targets
  8. Participate in the Extended Hours scheme

  1. Ensure services are provided to a high quality and that they are of a consistent standard to meet the identified needs of service users.
  2. Comply with all clinical governance requirements as they relate to continuous improvement in quality and organisational performance, including appraisal.
  3. Continually update personal professional knowledge and competence by undergoing continuing professional development and lifelong learning, and mentoring
  4. In collaboration with members of the team cascade acquired knowledge, learning and expertise in order to enhance skills and competencies of other clinicians.

Professional Leadership

  1. Identify best practice and disseminate accordingly, for exampled through benchmarking, clinical guidelines and research evidence.
  2. Develop new roles and responsibilities when then need arises and reflect and respond to the demands of the service.
  3. Liaise with relevant agencies and the local community to promote knowledge and awareness of the services provided
  4. Adopt a positive approach to change and provide a clinical perspective on service development and configuration issues. In addition, generate proposals for the continuous development of the service.

Education Training and Development

  1. As required provide supervision and mentoring opportunities for staff together with the Practice Manager and other Clinical staff.
  2. Develop new roles and responsibilities when the need arises which reflect and respond to the demands of the service.
  3. Identify ways of engaging service users in service developments. Develop strategies to meet objectives as they relate to the services provided by the practice, together with the Principal and the Practice Manager.
  4. Develop links with educational providers so as to provide a learning environment.

Service Development Linked to Research and Evaluation

  1. In collaboration with key stakeholders participate in evaluation of the service through a process of audit and research activity. Participate in the production of regular performance monitoring reports as required.
  2. Develop and implement policies and procedures, clinical guidelines and protocols as required
  3. Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the broad spectrum of health and social care providers, service users and voluntary agencies.
  4. Utilising the latest evidence, shape and organise services to reflect the needs of service users and in response to local and national priorities and policy directives.

Human Resources

  1. Promote equality of opportunity in accordance with the aims and objectives of the PMS Contractual Objectives and NHS policy.
