We are looking for a Business Manager to join our friendly, innovative and well supported primary care team at Trafalgar Medical Group Practice.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Business Manager will be to provide leadership to the senior management team and oversee all aspects of TMGP business including financial planning, strategy and transformation, operational delivery and quality/compliance. The role is crucial to ensuring a positive working culture, continuous improvement and excellent patient-centred care. About us

Trafalgar Medical Group Practice (TMGP) works from two sites in Southsea, one being Eastney Health Centre, the other Osborne Road. The successful 27,000 patient Practice continues to grow and has a medical team of 6 partners, and 12 salaried GPs. Our nursing team, led by our Clinical Manager, are very experienced and highly regarded. Along with a strong pharmacy team and physios they are all supported with an excellent admin, secretarial and reception team who work across both sites.

Job responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversee delivery of all aspects of TMGP business including financial planning and management, strategy and transformation, operational delivery and quality/compliance. The role will work closely with the GP Partner team and Senior Management Team, to ensure there is a culture of continuous improvement and excellent patient-centred care, which not only adheres to, but helps to define best practice for Primary Care. Regularly review and refine the leadership/organisational structure and governance mechanisms and continuously develop capacity/capability across the whole organisation.

Experience of primary care management is essential for this role. The ideal candidate will have proven people management, communication, organisational and IT skills within the General Practice setting and ideally experience of working in other NHS organisations. An understanding of practice finance and business knowledge is deemed essential for this role, alongside ensuring practice income is maximised and new business opportunities are proactively sought.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to deal with multiple tasks and work well under pressure, in addition to managing change for the surgery and working closely within our region and PCN.

In particular, the role will support the Partners in areas of project management, personnel management, management of patient and clinical information and general administrative duties. At all times the post holder must act in a manner consistent with the code of conduct and appearance representing the Practice and the NHS. The role holder will lead by example by being organised, punctual and have good visibility across both sites of the practice.

  • Have a solid understanding of the principles and practice of managing health care organisations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NHS contracts, in particular those associated with Primary Care and the broader regulatory and commissioning environment; including CQC regulatory framework
  • Professional knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas:
  • - Managing Finance
  • - Human Resources
  • - Operational Management
  • - Management of Clinical Services
  • - Service redesign and development
  • - Strategic development and change management
  • - Managing Complaints
  • Have a good understanding of the political environment at both national and local level and the potential impact of this on General Practice
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders and forming constructive and enduring relationship
  • Experienced in horizon scanning, developing bids and preparing business cases
  • A proven track record of responding promptly to new information and overcoming challenges by adapting to change
