Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity and time to join the nursing team in a forward thinking, developing, busy, and diverse GP Practice. This is an established training Practice and we are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Heath Care Assistant who can integrate well and who has skills to offer which can benefit our patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the nursing team and will work alongside the Practice Nursing Team, liaising closing with the Nurse Manager to deliver healthcare support to the patients of Trafalgar Medical Group Practice.

The HCA will undertake general treatment room duties like new patient health checks, urinalysis, ECG recording, chaperoning patients, maintaining hygiene standards, maintenance of equipment and the recording of refrigerator temperature on a daily basis, ordering of stock and re-stocking GPs and Nurses treatment rooms. The HCA will also be responsible for documenting his/her patient consultations on SystmOne.

He/she will maintain patient confidentiality and will work under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and within Practice Guidelines and Protocols at all times.

Trafalgar Medical Group Practice works from two sites in Southsea, one being Eastney Health Centre, the other Osborne Road. The successful 27,000 patient practice continues to grow and has a medical team of six partners, and nine salaried GPs. Our nursing team, led by our Clinical Manager, are very experienced and highly regarded. They are all supported withexcellent administration, secretarial and reception teams who work across both sites.The practice is also the lead practice for the Portsmouth South Coast Primary Care Network and is an established GP training practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

To act in such a manner as to support the client/patient at all times and be mindful of the need to reduce anxiety for the client/patient.

To provide a phlebotomy service for patients.

To conduct New Patient Medicals for newly registered patients to the practice

To undertake appropriate clinical work in support of QOF

To undertake ear irrigation in accordance with local policy

To be responsible for the re-stocking of all clinical areas and maintaining a stock rotation system.

To assist in restocking clinical area with supplies and health promotion materials as agreed with GPs/Nursing Team and to restock rooms as appropriate.

To assist in general nursing duties, under the supervision of the Practice Nursing Team, i.e. Urine testing, weight/height, blood pressure measurements, ECG recording, spirometry, peak flow measurements, smoking cessation advice and any other duties that may be assigned as necessary.

To ensure that drug/vaccine refrigerators are at the correct temperature on a daily basis and maintain the Vaccine Cold Chain documented record according to Practice Guidelines, in the absence of designated Nurse.

To act as a chaperone as required to GPs and Practice Nurses.

To participate in the induction programme of staff new to the practice

To receive and document telephone messages as and when necessary and communicate to other members of the clinical team as appropriate.

To maintain health information notice board in line with national/local health promotion campaigns.

To undertake appropriate formal training as required by the Practice.

General Duties

To function as an integral part of the Primary Health Care Team.

To attend relevant clinical meetings as required.

To have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of Health and Safety legislation and Data Protection acts.

To report immediately to a member of the clinical staff or the Operations Manager any acts of omission or error to safeguard the interest of the patient.
