Job summary
Millbrook Medical Centre is a busy Practice based in
Knowsley over two sites within Kirkby.
We are looking for a Receptionist to join our busy,
friendly, hardworking and forward-thinking team to cover maternity leave. This
is a part time role for 18 hours per week.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as
a Receptionist within General Practice, have excellent customer service and
communication skills and be able to work both as part of a team and alone.
Purpose of the role:
To assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate
service/healthcare professional in a courteous and efficient way.
To offer assistance to the team and project a positive image
to visitors, either in person/online/phone.
To provide general administrative support to the Practice
Manager, Doctors and Health Professionals, involving word processing with
general clerical work over two sites.

Knowledge of EMIS web desirable but not essential
Processing/issuing of prescriptions
Maintaining our appointment system
Processing requests for appointments, visits and
consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate professional
Admin duties - scanning, completing tasks and summarising
patient medical records
Computer data entry/data allocation and collation
Initiating contact with/responding to requests from
patients/others
Filing and retrieving paperwork
Keeping patient areas tidy and free from obstructions

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the
appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and
effective way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project
a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person
or via the telephone.
To provide general secretarial support to the practice
manager, doctors and health professionals, involving word processing with
general clerical work over two sites.
The practice is moving towards becoming a paper-light
environment, and the main responsibilities of the post-holder will be to
summarise and read code relevant information from patients clinical records,
hospital correspondence and other sources into the practice computer system,
working strictly in accordance with the practice notes summarising and read
code protocols.
Job Responsibilities:
Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is
provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make
new and follow-up appointments.
Using your own judgment and communication skills, ensure
that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are
seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new
patients and those seeking temporary cover, and ensure procedures are
completed.
Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls
and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
Enter requests for home visits onto the home visit screen,
ensuring to carefully record all relevant details and referring to duty doctor
where necessary.
Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are
ready for collection by the patient or courier within 48 hours, either on the
computer or manually, ensuring all CONTROLLED DRUGS are accounted for, and
signed for by patient or courier
Advise patients of relevant charges for private services,
accept payment and issue receipts
Enter patient information on to the computer as required.
Open up premises at the start of the day when first to
arrive, and make all necessary preparations to receive patients.
Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the
computer system promptly and accurately
Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the
post as requested by the partners or the practice manager.
Alert Doctors on duty of any urgent alerts received by email or post.
Any other duties within the business needs.
